I can't even begin to think about fans without taking a couple days off. Have been thinking about 'renown' for two weeks and my brain is tired. But today I think I finally 'got it'. It's pretty simple, but the path to it required adopting a temporary total disregard toward things like nouns, verbs, and other forms, and just sensing the 'feelings' of words. This is hard. And sure, they're related. Let's start my hypothesis with a different word. Reproduction. Not the thing that's going on when biblical people 'know' each other and start all that 'begatting'. I'm talking about something like the Mona Lisa print you might have in your living room. The original was 'produced'. Subsequent copies have been 'reproduced', and like quite a few other 're-' words, there's a subtle implication that there're probably a lot of them out there. 'Renown' is simply 're' + 'known' with the 'k' left out. When a person is born, he becomes 'known', in the sense that he 'exists'. From that point on, every time someone new meets him or becomes aware of his existence, he's effectively re-known. One achieves 'renown' when this happens more often than average. I don't know. Sounds pretty good to me. ( :

Didn't know that! As a relative newcomer to youtube, I was genuinely surprised when I cranked it up earlier to see a dozen or more old black and white MTS's staring me in the face, I assume as a result of watching your video yesterday. The 'coffee house' was great, and I'm looking forward to watching all of them. I sort of 'remember' many of the color episodes, but the older ones will all be 'new' to me. Probably going to watch all of them tomorrow, one after another, when I really should be doing the many important chores and errands I need to do. Thanks a lot!

I just realized that my 'believe it or not' may have given the wrong impression. If it had been just Jackie singing, the odds would favor the song being good. But 'Rob' was singing too! So the surprise is that he's not 'too bad'! Ha! Guess what? I just found it! Fast-forward to twenty minutes on the dot. ( : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVRzLyzsAvo

Little Jackie DeShannon! Shown here with 'Rob' on the old 'My Three Sons' show, putting a Shakespeare soliloquy to music for a school project. (Believe it or not, it's almost mind-blowingly good.) If the name doesn't ring a bell, you may have heard her singing 'Put A Little Love In Your Heart' or 'What The World Needs Now Is Love'. If you're a little young for those, how about 'Bette Davis Eyes'? Unless you're a 'fan' you probably never heard Jackie sing that one, even though she did write it. Here's a tuber link, if you're interested. ( : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBfcrSlaV0s

You got a rare "oooooooo...." out of me with this one. (Not the letter 'o' sound that has an 'h' at the end. The other one that can't be clearly spelled, although this is close.) It's really cool, in more ways than one. I think I must like this for the same 'whatever it is' reason I like white (clear?) Christmas lights. And at the risk of possibly damaging my reputation as a 'sophisticated gentleman' ( ) I still think those crazy 70's white artificial trees were pretty slick. ( :

Ha! And a different 'William' as 'Bub'! Great triple (I guess maybe quadruple) whammy!
-
What!? You mean you're not terribly disappointed about not setting a new high temperature record like some of us?
-
Yeah, I just made that word up. I guess 'trivium' might actually be correct, although I've never heard it used. Have to look that up when I'm not feeling lazy. If you enjoyed the show 'My Three Sons' you undoubtedly remember 'Katie'. She was sort of a rarity among tv characters, in that she became 'much-loved' by viewers in spite of being a somewhat 'late addition' to the series. I've recently been catching up on MTS (told you I was lazy!) episodes that I missed way back when. The episode I just saw looks to me to be the very first appearance of Katie. She was a college girlfriend of Rob's, and didn't even have the same name at the time! 'Brilliant Me' had to check the credits to make absolutely sure it was the same woman. Sure enough!

Ha! May the snow be with you! ( :

I'm afraid I'm having some 'brain gas' and have no idea what you mean by the 'b-word'. Assuming that the "letter-word" format used here is humorous, and not for the purpose of avoiding 'bad' words in the way Hoody and I recently discussed. (OmG. I can't believe how much I sounded like 'Sheldon' with that question/comment!) Glad you got some of the snow you enjoy. Going to make a point tonight of asking the powers that be to send all my snow your way, where it will be more appreciated. ( :

I think I know what you mean. One saving grace for me is that I was never in a position to acquire large numbers of marbles at any given time, so things never got too out of control. But I still wound up at one point feeling like I just had more marbles than I needed to be happy. Came up with a concept I call 'marble karma'. In my personal case, this often means 'giving them away'. It's much more satisfying than many people might think. The idea is realizing that as much as you still might 'like' them, some of your marbles have passed the point where they're giving you 'maximum enjoyment'. By giving them to someone who you know is going to be totally thrilled with the new acquisition, you imbue the marbles with a new 'positive energy', which all marbles were born with and deserve to have renewed from time to time, instead of sitting on a closet shelf in a box. Of course there are many variations on this. Any buying, selling, giving, or trading of marbles certainly contributes to the sort of intrinsic energy I'm talking about. And for some people, keeping large numbers of marbles in the closet will also achieve the same thing if you're planning to leave them to someone you know will genuinely appreciate them. Right now, I'm pretty sure I'd be willing to give up 90% of my 'collection' for one or a few of the 'ultimate for me' marbles I could have on my desk and probably enjoy every day indefinitely. The 10% I'd never give away are the 'karma marbles' I've been given for no reason other than friendship, love, and affection. These are even better than the 'ultimate' ones!

Yep! New record! It's so reassuring that our government is letting us know that this couldn't possibly have anything to do with global warming!

Why didn't I think of that?

In spite of all the incredible advantages of doing all your television viewing by recording the programs at an earlier time, there's one big downside. You're constantly seeing advertisements from 'your favorite places' offering 'your favorite things' at 80% off for 'a limited time only!" And that 'limited time' expired a week ago. ( :

I don't know if we set any records, but here in the middle of the U.S. East Coast we were close to 70 F, and it was pretty damp with occasional light rain. At least a couple people I know turned on a little bit of air conditioning for their holiday festivities. ( :

Sounds like good advice! There was a time, many many years ago, when I was going to begin an 'electrician's apprentice' program. Then one morning I woke up and the first thing that popped into my head was "I'm very uncomfortable climbing up ladders. And electricity scares the hell out of me." So much for that. D'oh!

Ha! Can't get much more logical than that!

Hee-hee! Haven't even looked at this yet, but I know it'll be great!

As long as I'm on the topic of television, I'd like to add this moment I was just amused by. Here's one of my fellow brother 'slightly older guys' who's simply trying to turn the tv 'off' while visiting the home of younger family members and being confronted with several 'remotes'. I know just how he feels!

Just came upon this. It's what Hallmark is calling "A Happy Yule Log", and judging from the tv listings is something they have been and will be running most of the day and night. I'm going to come right out and say it. I think this is great. When that first 'fireplace on the tv' came out, I thought it was one of the most creative and brilliant uses of modern technology I'd ever seen. Can't really explain why. Just the way it is imho. The slightly wider view and addition of the pets is an interesting change. Although I think the close-up of just the fireplace is a somewhat 'purer' concept. Anyway, wishing everyone a very Happy Yule Log!

I was really surprised when I finally noticed him/her! Might have let one of those 'bad words' we talked about slip out! ( :

These have all been just great! Might for me be the many years of black and white photography, but grays are particularly interesting and beautiful. So thanks to all posters, and please keep them coming! A coincidental half off-topic side note: I've always been under the impression that most U.S. people use the spelling "gray", and that British and possibly other European folk use "grey". Earlier today I noticed that many USers use the term "greyed-out", when complaining about a computer program that for some reason isn't allowing them to use certain 'check-boxes' to make adjustments. I was even corrected by Google when I tried to use "grayed-out". This is just silly. ( :

Used the 40,000mm Astro-Nikkor lens. This lens hasn't been officially announced yet, so please keep it a secret and don't 'leak' this photo! Shown here during some pre-production testing by my wife, Gwen Stefani!

Well nuts! I was hoping you were considering being a new owner of older stuff. Or just wanted to chat about it! That's okay. I'm going to keep talking anyway. Glad you found the new owners, though! Galen, I remember Yamaha speakers fondly. They were beautiful. And they all had the same terrific smooth neutral sound, whether you went for the little 'bookshelves' or big fancy ones. Only difference was potential dB output. Which I guess is to say the number of neighbors you could 'share' them with!
