  1. I think of wirepulls as primarily European. That influences me in the fuzzy areas. If it looks "close" but I can tell it's American, I probably don't feel tempted to call it a wirepull. If it looks close to what an American marble would look like but I know it's European, that biases me a little and lets me call it a wirepull anyway.

Since yours look American, I would call them "transparent swirls".

Someone could probably post an example which would test the boundaries of what I just posted but for the moment that's where I am with the term "wirepull".

  2. New forum. New intro. :)

    Hi, I'm Steph.

I've been collecting marbles since 2003. I collect mostly machine-mades but I have a fondness for ceramics.

My greatest interest currently is marble history.

  3. My files of bag photos are in disarray due to awkward backups before computer reformatting. Hopefully Al will have the bags.

I know that Vitro trademarked the name "Marine Gems" in 1941.

Here's a 1959 ad which shows a different header on Peltier's poly bag version, and a price list.

  4. Here's an itty bitty picture of a box, and a pic of its label. Got the pictures from a Marblealan auction. Don't know who got the box.

Here is what the auction description said:

This lot, A MARBLE CONSIGNMENT, consists of a 100-count marble box (ca. 1930s) with approximate dimensions of 5-3/16" by 5-3/16" by 17/32". The only marking on it is a small side label reading "100 Bolitas/No. 00/Asst. B/Industria/Japonesa," indicating manufacture in Japan and sale in South America, probably Argentina. The marbles all measure about 1/2" (13 mm) and represent eight different color combinations of "Patches" arranged in 10 columns ....
