  1. Hi Steph Interesting. I am trying to order some of the files. I am not sure if it works, they havn't arrived yet to my email. Will let you folks know if it works and if there is something interesting. Thanks for the link. Ron
  2. Thank you very much for all your inputs. I like the idea of a "naked onionskin", so I will use that for my files. Thanks Ron
  3. okay, thanks for all these suggestions... But I am more confused now I have another marble which looks a bit similar. But this one is an onionskin definately. Really difficult in what category to put that one....
  4. Hi Ann I bought it together with a bunch of other marbles and didn't notice this marble at all. But when I had a closer look at them later I was very surprised to see the b/w alternating latticino core ! I have never heard of or seen a similar marble. I asked Bob Block and he told me he had seen one or two black latticinos. So it is not unheard of but for sure very rare. Ron
  5. Need your help again, sorry... I bought this marble from "Marblealan" (miss you ) back in 2011. He listed this one as "speckled transparent with mica". It is a breathtaking wet mint marble, size is 27/32 inches. But personally I would have called it "coreless swirl with speckles and mica" or "Josephs Coat with speckles and mica". It is definately transparent (which is not visible on the photos). I have neither seen nor heard of a similar marble of this type. Any suggestions what kind of marble this is ? Thanks for your inputs. Ron
  6. Thanks folks ! Yes, I know it is difficult to put a value on and I know how prices could vary depending how many people want the marble. The database of my collection should reflect the approximate values of my marbles as an indicator for whoever inherit this collection once (because I can't imagine I will ever part with my marbles as long as I live). Thanks a lot for your inputs. Ron
  7. Hi I am currently establishing a database of my collection of old handmades. There are two marbles which are probably signifacantly more valueable than the price I paid for them and therefore I would add the approximate value too, not just the price I paid for them. One is an alternating black & white latticino swirl in mint- condition, size is 29/32 The other is a large cranberry ribbon lutz, mint- condition, size is 1 17/32 inches Attached are two photos of them. I would estimate the value for the lutz at about $ 5'000.00 and for the black & white latticino at $ 2'000.00, but this is just a guess. So I would really appreciate some inputs. Thank you very much Ron
  8. It is definately not mint but I would grade this one as near mint, something around 8.4. Often damage look really terrible in these high-resolution pics nowadays but when you have the marble in hand you barely notice the flaws. I really don't mind small damages like these, somehow I like the idea that the marble was not just iput on a shelf for the past century but was a kids precious toy once. But every one has his own opinnion how to grade a marble, so it is not easy. But 9.2 is way to optimistic, I agree. Ron
  9. ....when you dream every fortnight that you discover an antique store with the nicest marbles you have ever seen and they cost almost nothing. This antique store is just behind a house you pass by every day but so far it has never crossed your mind to look behind this house. But it is really hard to wake up.....
  10. Hi folks My wife is a mosaic artist and member of a group called "Piecemakers". They do a group challenge every few months and the topic for this months challenge was "MARBLES". So every artist had to build a mosaic with marbles or about marbles. There are some really nice pieces and it would be great if you could have a look and vote for your favourite ! Here is the link : http://piecemakersmosaics.blogspot.ch/2013/09/marble-challenge.htmlI think they all did really a great job !!! Thanks for your interest. Ron www.glasmurmeln.com
  11. Ron Buol, Switzerland www.glasmurmeln.com I am collecting old and contemporary handmades
  12. Hi Mike, puh, difficult question. About 20 I guess. There are a lot of marbles from Eddie Seese, Rolf Wald, Geoffrey Beetem, Keith Baker, Kris Parke, Hot House Glass and Mark Matthews. But also several others and some are unknown. Ron
  13. Hi Just made some pics and a video of my contemporary marble collection. It's unvelievable how many different colors and designs those gifted glass-artist are using nowadays, these is real eye candy, isn't it ? A big compliment to all those great artists who spend hours to create such nice pieces of art. There is a link to the movie if you are interested: Happy Sunday ! Ron
  14. Hahaha, yes, I noticed the bug after I finished the video
  15. OK, I changed the music, so it should work now also in the USA. There's no music for the last few seconds, but hey, the main thing is the marbles, isn't it ? Here is the link again. Would be nice to see some other marble videos too.... Ron
  16. Hi folks I received my marbles from Morphyauctions this week and this inspired me to make a new video of my better marbles. All are handmades, sorry machine-made-collectors enjoy ! Ron www.glasmurmeln.com
  17. Hi Jeroen, It's a pity, I am really sorry to hear that the marble isn't what you expected. Just wondering. Does the surface of the marble looks old or does it become smoother during the reheating process ? Would you mind if I put your pictures on my homepage to warn other people from reheated marbles ? PLMK Ron
  18. @Rich I have a question. If a marble is reheated, is it necessary to add additional glass to it (if the marble had hits with missing glass) or is there no need to add glass in this process ? I am still not sure what I should think about remelted marbles. I don't like polished or buffed marbles because in this process glass is removed. I don't like repaired marbles with polymer because something is added. But if a marble is just reheated without taking or adding something I could probably live with it. Or with other words, it is in my oppinnion the best way to bring back the beauty of a marble. But I still prefer a marble with same flaws to a reworked marble. Interesting thread !! Ron
  19. Hi Roger It was sold as a "jelly core" a few years ago and there was a message from G. Dolly on the ebay-auction who said this is one of the nicest "jelly cores" he has ever seen. So in my oppinion it is a "jelly core" if the core is transparent, no matter if there are outer bands on the core itself or just on the marbles surface. But hey, it is always difficult to classify these more uncommon marbles. Ron
