Largest White Opaque Lutz Known To Exist

Here is the same photo as JVV posted, but with some more contrast showing the reddish/orange glow better. Jeroen -
Hello, Here is a photo of a 1-15/32 inch white opaque lutz I recently added to my collection. It is probably 1/4 inch larger than any other known white opaque lutz. This was told to me by a collector who is more or less a specialsit in opaque lutz marbles. Also two movies: http://youtu.be/KJzDsGtqxPM Enjoy the photo and the movies. Jeroen

Hello, and what is the name of this person that is on ebay? I am asking because I got an email from a friend who have received the same crazy emails years ago, also about a marble being fake or not. Those emails came from Scott Patric. Scot Patric has also a website marble integrety. Or at least he refer to this website when he post here on this forum. He had a list on that website with the worst marble dealers around. I think Bert Cohen was nr 1 Bob Block nr 2 or 3. So I would not surprice me if the name Callbob is just a kind of sarcastic reference to Bob Block. I could be all wrong here, but my friend was more or less convinced that this Callbob is Scott Patric. Jeroen

Hello Steph, I can just see that Callbob is reading this topic and currently is using his personal messenger, so I think I can expect the next threatening mail very soon.

Hello Collectors, Who is this CallBob? Escaped from a mental institute? I just got a private message from him with the subject:God damm Asshole! I will hurt you as bad as i can when i meet you .. &^*** you , I don't care what you say except in public . Shut your god dam mouth .. or what's your address ? Where do you live and what time are you home .. Bob (Block), don't tell me your are friends with this brain sick person. I can't inmagine that Brian Esstep is a friend of this psycho also. Can we terminate him from this forum. He is mental ill and a waist of time for every one on this forum here! Jeroen

An other simple reason why this is a fake. If it was a real China scenic, the big collectors would have jumped on it, and it would have sold for $4000-$5000 or more. A few months ago, this China: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ANTIQUE-19th-CENTURY-HANDPAINTED-CHINA-MARBLE-/300789092560?pt=Marbles&hash=item46086d50d0 was sold for almost $2800. I know who was the highest bidder, and he knows his marbles. This is a rare marble too, but I think China scenics are even rarer. So a real China scenic woud sell for much more than $1125! Jeroen
-
It is made in the Czech Republic a few years ago, by a not so good craftman!
-
Well this is going to be an interesting topic. I just saw that this china was sold for $1125! But I thought that there is no real serious discussion if this is a fake or not. This is 100% fake in my opinion. Everything is wrong about this marble. A bonus is that is comes from the Czech Republic. I live in the Netherlands, and when the eastern European countries got their freedom du to Perestoika, all kind of trouble/ fake products etc. came on the market in Western Europe. It got worse when the Bulgarians and the Rumanian countries got their freedom of traveling through Europe also. You have to understand that those countries were, and still are very poor (Czech Republic has improved very much). So they will try everything to get money. And if someone in those countries find out that there are crazy collectors who want to pay thousands of $$$ for marbles, it is just a matter of time and fake ones will appear. This summer there was a seller from Rumania, or Bulgaria I think with lots of strange rare marbles. The description was saying the marbles were from the 80ties, but they sold like real old handmade marbles. Prices up to $400-500 if I remember correctly. I think those marbles were some kind of remelts, or creations of old other old glass. There are probably enough high skilled glassworkers in those countries, so no problem create such marbles. Well I am just curious what we will see at ebay in the future coming from those countries. Be careful! Jeroen

Giant Onionskin, One Of The Largest Known To Exist?
jeroen replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hello Collectors, A few weeks ago I contacted Bob Block about giant onionskins. Het mentioned that he had seen one about 15 years ago at the Amana show that was 3-1/4 inch!!! Lloyd Huffer rememered that one also, but they don't know who owns it now, and did not have a photo of it. Can any of you remember that giant onionskin, and have any more info about it? And of course any info about other giants is still welcome! Regards, Jeroen -

Hello Clyde, What is the definition of scrap glass? Perhaps it were the very thin glass rods, they used to make the bands on the swirls. There are marbles made of this scrap glass. See the examples. Jeroen
-
Hello Brian,This is very interesting information. I can read the German language very well, so I understand it. But I think hefteisen is the metal rod, not a pontil. And schleifgebirge, is possible reffered to the area where the water mills where situated, where they ground down the marbles. Such local names where not uncommon in Germany. Jeroen
-
Well after the discussions seems to come to an end, what shall we call them? They are all single pontils. They have all faceted pontils, and they are handmade. What combination of these features can give a correct name? Faceted pontil single handgathered? Or just faceted single handgathered. And is this "hand" necessary? It it possible to, as to speak "single gather" glass (collect glass), other than by hand? I think everybody knows what the faceted is referred to? No other part than the pontil on a marble has been faceted in tha past right? So if somebody says I have a faceted single handgathered, than everyone should understand, that it is referred to those German marbles from before the invention of the marbles scissors that were made one by one by hand. Just because of my lack of knowledge of the English language. Must it be in the situation without the word "hand", gather or gathered? So is faceted single gather right, or should it be gathered? Regards, Jeroen

Giant Onionskin, One Of The Largest Known To Exist?
jeroen replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hello, I did a nice discovery on one of my giant onionskins recently. I discoverd that my turquoise onionskins is mentioned in the book "Big book of marbles" from Crist and Huffer 4th edition. Plate 402, page 171. The color in the book is different with the real color, so I did not recognise it at first. The marble is up side down too in the book. Also the description is different in the book: single pontil cloud with mica 2-3/16. It is not a single pontil, and it is much larger. Look at the detail in the red circle. 100% MATCH! So I have a well known marble also! Jeroen -
Hello Joe, If the voting for super marbles can been done for different categories, in the end the website will produce the top 10 super onionskins, lutzes, machine mades etc. That would be something. Jeroen
-
Hello Joe, Very nice website! I uploade some marbles. Very easy, and good search options. Perhaps add an option to vote for marbles to get some kind of super marbles list? Just a thought.... Jeroen

Hello Bob, What is the status for this book? Jeroen

Giant Onionskin, One Of The Largest Known To Exist?
jeroen replied to jeroen's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Hello Collectors, I have added an other giant onionskin to my collection. It is over 2-19/32 inch, close to 2-5/8. My other giant is 2-19/32. To be sure which marbles is the biggest, I put them on a scale. My other giant is 370 grams, this one is 381 grams. I have put the question for the hunt for giant onionskins on some other marble forums also, but until now, I have no hard proof of bigger ones. Perhaps they are with collectors who never go to the internet. As an other collector told me, the true giants are as rare as hens teeth! Well it seems so. Jeroen
