If we all had the time to read the books and the money and ability to have all the books, I guess we wouldn't need a chat board...... Personally, I have a ton of the books. But, my time really doesn't allow for sitting and casually reading. I really enjoy these posts because they bring this stuff to the Internet and allow conversation about it. There have been a lot of posts about very silly things on the boards... And, that's fun!! I'd just as soon scrap "The Lounge" and have it all here. It's a good break from the "serious marble talk." (It sure worked OK for us back before we had to use "Specific Categories" to speak in!!) But, when a good technical question comes up, to say "In other words - Read the Books" kinda sounds like it's something we don't want to talk about....... Uh............ So, if we can't talk "off topic" and we can't discuss what's "printed in a book" what the heck are we gonna talk about??? Current events, auctions and sales strickly in the marble world, get a bit weary after a while..... I'd really like everyone to feel like they can discuss whatever they want here, without any worry of being bitch slapped for it. :glare:

Whoaaaaaa, Wayne!! What's that in your avatar??? Wayyy Cool!!
-
In the big picture of world politics, it is pretty funny, huh??? ROFLMAO Alan, I agree... It is sad that this has happened without much "organization...." But, the digging at Akro has been going on for sooooo very long. I'd bet that most of the necessary info is in the heads of the early folks who dug there.... Like Roger Hardy and Al Morin. I haven't seen Al in years, cuz I've stopped doing shows, but he lives / lived in the town next to mine and I used to see him frequently.... What he knows about Akro and glass in general is amazing!! Roger has done a lot of research for his books and I'm sure he has a ton that hasn't been published.... Given the content of that auction description, much of it may be way more than we want to know!!! LOL
-
Because the auction will be gone in time, I copied the text..... Just remember, this is one man's view..................

I'm gonna ask yet another stupid question..... (I'm full of 'em... But, there's only a few that I actually dare ask!!! LOL ) Let me see if I have this straight..... Megas are connected to Vacor De Mexico, right?? I'm not sure I have all the lineage of these companies down cold.... Where does Mega come into the world by location and time-line??
-
If I get a chance to drag out a bunch of stuff, I'll certainly keep a watch out..... It might be a while, though................... Tapeworm??? OMG!!
-
Hi Wayne, I think the only ones that look familiar to me, might be the owls.... I always sort through those marbles when I see 'em... And, I often buy some.... But, I hate to admit that I'm not very good about keeping track of them, they just get absorbed into the stashes!! LOL I met some folks at Wheaton who might be a help to you... Check out The Marble Man I'm not sure how much he's into Mega, but he seems to have a good knowledge of what's "out there."
-
I couldn't resist playing..... Cuz, I'm supposed to be working.... LOL Pelt............ Brighten a bit, up contrast a bit, lessen red tint a bit.... Crop and resize...... How's it look??
-
LOL Yeah, it would be so easy if we could just use the same thing for everything!!! I've gotten into cropping my marble pics with "Picture It." I have no idea where this program came from... As far as I know it was programmed into the computer when we got it... But, I use it a LOT!!! So, here's an example of what I mean.... This looks great.... But, are you getting a true visual of the marble? It still looks great when it's cropped.... But, you just KNOW someone is gonna ask "Is that purple really in there??" Sometimes, I've used a white background that looked totally washed out before cropping... But after, it looked fine!! (Sometimes it needs to be darkened or contrasted a bit) Of course, opaque marbles make it a lot easier!!! LOL The worst case is when you take one with a colored background and it looks SO good, you just WISH that color was really there!!!
-
Awesome, John!!! (Hey, Kevin's even lookin' in!!! ) Carole, I really like that marble in front of that color as a setting... But, if your just going for the marble picture, I've found that a more neutral color works better. It's tough to pick out which color works best though.... White tends to wash out, black tends to absorb... So, somewhere in between, I guess... Each marble seems to have it's own best background... Raz' worked better with light, this Nail goes better with dark.... In displaying at antiques shows, I was told that navy or burgundy show glass best as tableclothes... Now, when I take pictures, I use a rose colored fabric from those tableclothes as a backdrop for my auctions. But, sometimes the red base is over powering and I have to change it.... In general, it works well for auctions, cuz the red catches the viewers attention in the gallery!! But, if I use it for marbles, one way or another, either through the glass, or in reflection, the red creeps into the marble... So, I've gone back to neutral for those.

ROFL Bump away!!! Lou & I have just been discussing board "space".... It's been the cause of old threads having to be deleted... He's put a limit on picture upload size.... I'll ask him what it is and post a thread on it..... Good Luck!!! If you get 'em "down" I'll send you mine to take pictures of!!! ROFL
-
Oh John...................................... We might never see you again!!! LOL Kevin's gotta have the toughest marbles to photograph in the world!!! If you can make them look as good as the ones from Raz, you've got a natural talent to die for!!
-
Hey, I just tripped over another new artist that's selling in very reasonable price range.... Ryan Wilder
-
Thanks marblesa2z!! Here's a couple of links, again.... (I hope these work better than my links to Mike's auction...) WVMC Home Page WVMC Page on Kokomo marbles (Thanks for the right page, Steph!! )
-
Whoa... I shoulda read all of this thread before going there!! The whole time I was reading, I was thinkin' "Damn... Those look like corkscrews!!!.... WTF!!" LOL
-
Damn, Mike!! This is no fun!!! LOL Again, keep us posted.... And, as Felicia says, you've got an ear (Heck, a bunch of 'em!!) here!!
-
There's been discussion about Kokomo marbles in the past.... It's been a while since they were brought up.... Possibly, prior to this board host... Hey Steph, do you have a link to the earlier version of the connection?? I believe it was an EZboard forum... We changed over when EZ had a major hack / crash. It's "out there" on the web. Once in a while, I run across it. ............Shoot me for not paying as much attention to discussions about machine made marbles as I should..........
-
LOL.... I have moments like that... And, at times, it's a good thing!!! It used to be much more frequent, then I had children.....!!!! I've had to learn to let a lot of things S - l - i - d - e .................... LOL They look great!
-
Yeahhhhhhhhhh!!! Thanks Steph!! Yours worked... I still can't get mine to work. Weird... I did it just as I always do... It actually shows the title, then defaults to an error.... Alan, thanks for the photo!! I really would like a Super Jetson over a regular.... Heck, I'll take both!! Now, I just need to win a lottery!!! ROFL
-
Wow!! Those are so cool!!! You musta gotten those before I saw his booth... Either that, or I was just so mezmerized by the skins sculpture, that I just didn't see anything else!!! I haven't really been a big fan of the skins.... As amazing as they are from a technical standpoint, they just don't "sing" to me.... But............ Put them together in that sculpture and it's a whole new thing!! All the white and lights over exposed my pics a bit....
-
Damn.... I can't seem to get that link to work... Is it working for anyone else?? Let's try it in a new post from a different angle..... Petura Jellyfish Nope... that's not working for me, either Oh well.... If it doesn't work for anyone else, the auction number is 140159997322

The one with sunglasses is my son's and I just purchased the other from my son.... (I'll get the other one, somday, I bet!!! LOL) Thank YOU Alan, for the Mark Christensen link!!! I ran across him while looking for a Matthews Jetson picture to put in the vaseline post.... Didn't find one I liked.... and, I've REALLY gotta get to work... But, I'm really enjoying being here!! Hey Mike, nice to see you!!! Mannnnnnnnnnnn, I HOPE everything is OK!!! Here's a link to Mike's current auction..... Petura Jellyfish!! Keep us posted and BE WELL!!!!
-
OMG!!! I haven't seen the comedy / tragedy!! .... But, somehow, there's GOT to be a Jetson in my future... (I think I like the pink rather than vaseline.....)
-
WONDERFUL Alan!!! Bill is one of my favoritest!!! LOL Prototypes of variations of "The Man" marbles.... Don't give up on Bill.... Someday, someway (when gas is cheaper) I think we'll see him back!! Hey, remember I said...................... Check this guy out!!! Not "Playin' Real Good For Free..." But, certainly in a negotiable price range!! Mark Christensen Many finished auctions under $10!!!
