Hmmmmmm, really?? There are a few other artists that do airtrap stuff.... I don't know if any do anything like the Jetson... Based on what I've heard about it's "degree of difficulty" it's amazing that it wasn't signed.... Could it have been one of the Chinese Bird Cage marbles?? Those weren't signed and had the other colors you mentioned.....
-
Could this be what you mean?? This is a bowl grouping by Mark Matthews... The blue marble is his "Jetson" design... I believe they've been made in crystal (clear) pink, blue and vaseline... Jetson - View 1 View 2 This group has both the Jetson and the "Super Jetson..." Carribean Holiday... If I had an extra 10 grand laying around, I'd probably buy that group!!!
-
Steph are those actually as yellow as they seem in the picture?? They look very similar to some white ones I have that were made for ballot boxes (white ball, black ball)
-
Wow, both are cool, Roger.... But that first one is really wild!! It looks like they used the usual patterns for cores on the inside and the outside layer...
-
I need to take more pictures..... These are what I have on file......... 4 lobes in a glass of water... Scott, I remember you wanted additional pics of this... 'Haven't done it... But, I haven't forgotten, either!!! I'll try to get to it..... This is a contemporary by Dudley Giberson... Not antique, but certainly a marble that even a vintage collector has to love!!!
-
Yeah, I didn't see those auctions either... It was late, I can't remember if I looked, or if they weren't there..... But, if we consider "context," it's in pretty nice standing.... OTOH.... I totally see what Rick is saying... My first gut impression wasn't good.... (Again..... For whatever that is worth....) I'm still curious about the "Road & Tunnel" thing... Could it be one of those??
-
WOW!!! What an awesome lookin' thing that is..... Whatever it is!!! LOL Jay, I'm not the best person to explain.... I expect Rick is wondering if it's what they say it is?? Would a Blue Ray be considered an "exotic??" If so... There's a lot of controversy about the authenticity of them in the first place... They have been commonly known to sell into 4 digits... Because that's WAYYYY outta line for me, I really haven't taken the time to study up on 'em much..... The discussions were often heated, so I've just kind've avoided the topic. I'm treading in real deep water trying to make some sense out of it for you, while, at the same time, asking some questions of my own...... Due to the value, several glass artists have attempted to copy them... Some got pretty good at it. The pattern on this looks pretty good to me (Which really isn't saying much........) The phrase ..... would concern me.... Were they often out of round??? I don't remember hearing that... Maybe it's the pictures, but that looks just a little more than "a bit out of round...." to me... The thing that I notice about it is.... In the 7th & 8th picture, it's kinda got that "Road & Tunnel" thing goin' on.... Would / Could someone explain the "Road & Tunnel" thing again??? As I remember, they were a run of marbles by a guy who had, or made a machine??? The "Road & Tunnel" marbles are not inexpensive on their own..............

EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!! ROFLMAO I was really hoping (As I think Steph was....) that someone who REALLY knew snotties would dump in some pictures so that we could get a good idea!!! Since that doesn't seem to be happenin' as easily as hoped..... I think we've got some really good contender guesses!!!! That's gotta take the cake!!! ..... Or, the sleeve????

I was devastated by an email from Nadine MacDonald, letting me know that Pat Fappiano passed away on March 5 after a short bout with lung cancer... Pat was a great friend with an infectious love of marbles, glass in general and all those around her.... Her Boisterous "Hey Buddy!!!" will always be with me.... We're really gonna miss you, Girl!!! Her enthusiasm was always runnin' way over the speed limit.... She just could never get enough of the wonder inside of a little glass ball..... WINSTED — Patricia E. Fappiano, age 52, of Mountain View Terrace, Winsted, passed away Wednesday morning, March 5, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington after a brief illness. Patricia was born on September 15, 1955, in Waterbury, a daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Cappelli) Fappiano. She was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1973, and Western CT State University, class of 1977, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music and a minor in Psychology. Patricia was a mental health assistant for the Capital Region Health Center for 14 years before her illness. She was an avid antique shopper and was an accomplished pianist. She loved and was an advocate for animals. Patricia is survived by a brother, Chris Fappiano and his wife, Rose of Townsend, Mass., a nephew, Francis Fappiano, a niece, Catherine Fappiano, two grandnieces, Kaitlynn and Christianna Fappiano and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Waterbury. Friends and family are asked to please meet at church. Hey, how 'bout razor sharpeners?? I know of 2 rag dolls that had sulphides sewn into the bodies as weights... That's kind of an industrial use, but for a toy.... The eyes of the horses in the "The Flying Horses" carousel.... All the eyes are sulphides.... Sounds cool, but they are actually really creepy looking!!!

I am not a Christian. But, I see NO need to apologize. Your post is beautiful.... As any belief from the heart is!!

Ron, it really stinks to be our age.... So many of those that we grew up looking up to are passing on and it's just devastating... (It's also a little scary to see that we are getting closer to being there!!) Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about stopping time... But, take heart in the knowledge that you have actually done what so many only talk about, by gathering all that you can from these people and saving it in a way that it can be utilized in the future. It's the best we can do to immortalize them. Losing them is so hard, but losing their knowledge would be tragic. Thank you and all the others who were involved in making sure that these people and their knowledge can live on after they have been taken away.... I'm sure they are grateful to you, too.

LOL @ Andrea!!! OK, I don't know whether your being smug, or not!!! If not... YES!! A human figure is better than most... if not all.... animal figures. I would think most inanimate objects would come in higher than most human figures. Colored figures or colored glass ranks next and I would think, 2 or more figures (as long as we're sure they are old) would rank as rarest... But, that's just "Basic Rule." Each individual marble, depending on condition, clarity and uniqueness may or may not break ranks.... A baby crawling is a GOOD thing!!!
-
Ya know... That's a good point.... It seems like my "scattered memory" feels the same on that!!
-
I'm not positive, but I believe I've seen this in a sulphide before.... Something in the back of my brain is saying Bert Cohen had one... That's not to say it may not have been copied... The glass of this one looks very slick.... But, that may be the photography... The description of the pontil sounds good, but I'd wanna see it... The only way they could really tell if the figure was bigger than an actual quarter, would be to put it in water... Otherwise, the glass magnifies the figure to look far bigger than it actually is... I can't imagine that a mold was painstakingly carved to perfection, when the actual coin could be caste... That process would probably produce a dried figure that is slightly smaller than the original...
-
Hey Glass man, I had a bunch of sulphides, long ago. I decided I really didn't like 'em, so I sold all but one... This one is near & dear to me... (Thanks to Buddy for the outline ) If you watch ebay, it's possible to get a decent sulphide for a reasonable price... They're not as popular as one might think, unless they're a very unusual figure, colored or in colored glass... By icon, do you mean the emoticon?? If so, just click where you want it and click on the emoticon.

WOW!!!! Alan!!! What lot of work!! And, what AWESOME pictures!!!! Thanks so much!!! LOL@ AL!!! Ya know, we could probably do a pretty complete marble ID guide right here!!!
-
Yeah Steph... That's just what I meant!!! ROFL Oh Roger!! THAT is "Lust-worthy!!!"
-
That makes a lot of sense!!! After writing my own post, reading Alan's, then going back to look... I realized that the blue & green were transparent over opaque.... Not the opaque green and blue that I was actually referring to... Sooooo, these may be "Tweeners." They have the look, but they aren't really "classic." Another thing I've noticed that seems to be far more "usual" in the "English" marbles, is the very plain solid core (most often white) ... That doesn't show up often in other swirls...
-
There's been a lot of speculation about "English Colors." I'm not really "up" on the newest findings... At one time, it was thought that they were made in England... I think that may have been because they seemed to be found there most often. I don't believe there was ever any evidence found to back it up... If anything, there's probably been evidence found to prove them German... I seem to remember a question posted that maybe they were exported to England for some reason and that's why so many seem to be there?? Maybe there was someone in England who specifically ordered them?? Maybe they were later colors, exported to England, but not the US, because our machine made industry was in gear and the US importation of marbles was slowing down?? English colors refers to certain marbles that have brighter than usual colors. The 2 that stand out to me the most in this group are these.... Most of the others look as though they may also be considered "English." But, I'm not sure I'd pick them out of a lot if they stood on their own... (OK, that sounds weird.... If they stood on their own as handmade marbles in a lot of machine mades, clays, chinas or Benningtons!! LOL) I think it's the lighter blue and lime green that make them jump out...(Also, that electric red / orange!!) Orange and yellow can be found on almost all marbles, but when you add the different green & blue, they really pop!! ... Yep, I think a few, if not most, of these could be called "English." (Ooops, 'sorry to contradict you Alan... I was typing when you posted...)
