Looks to be Cac, the only other option would be Alley Agate West Virginian, minus the yellow, but I'd stick with Cac. DB.

Actually I dont think it looks like the same glass but do understand what your thinking,it also appears that the dog has a seam down the center of his back, Its a very curious Item, still waiting to see anything from any company that has a simlar color combo, that marble is the closest so far but, the oxblood looks different, perhaps it was some sort of bead cut in half with the white belly added as a base for the bead? now just need to see a matching bead, it still seems most likely that an Akro person might have just been playing with glass, I did email Roger Hardy 1 dozen photos about 1 1/2 weeks ago and he never responded, unless he has a different e-mail. I would have appreciated just his thoughts on it since he's the Akro expert, maybe he's to busy.

9/16ths to a micron under 5/8ths and I wont ever make any more little guys, they gave me somw serious headaches due to the tiny bits of clay used.the big boy is 1 1/16th DB.

As a boy growing up I remember going to the carnival that came locally once a year and to Antique shows with my mom and dad there were always glass artisans making animals, carosels, balloons, just about anything you could possibly imagine, very skilled they were with a torch, they could knock out an elephant, giraf, aligator, just about any animal in a matter of minutes, no big deal, alot of different color clear base rods and some milky white for different effects, you see alot of these creations here and there at antique mall and shows, flea markets, estate sales just about everywhere, at this point i'm looking foward to seeing the little dog again to give his belly the real close inspection with a loop to really determine if perhaps a rod was attached, the owner of this little guy isa very emotionally attached to him, most likely because he has been an Antique toy dealer for 40 + years and has never come across anything even similar to this specific color combination other than some Akro ware, I dont think it really matches the blue oxblood marbles at all not even close, the base glass is similar but not identical to (some) of the ashtrays, thats just solely my opinion. As far as the Houze glass Items go I've seen quite abit of that over the years and to be honest I dont believe i've ever seen a cobalt white and red/ oxblood color combination from them, allthough the gear shift knobs vary wildly in many different combinations cant say that I've ever seen this color combo on them either, since the item was purchased in the late 1970's does someone here know anyone who most likely would be somewhat elderly at this point that was doing torch work glass at that point in time? Besides Akro I'd like to see any glass Item from any company and or torch artist new or old with this color combo. Perhaps I can bring this to the Des Moines marble show with me, not 100% of that yet though. DB.

Thanks for your opinion, I will loop the dogs belly next time I see it and add photos, and close ups of that area the dog was purchased at auction in the late 70's, maybe some old hippie torch artist was making buckets of them, Still haven't seen anything like it (ever) and I cant Verify its Akro either, just a thought on my part do to the similar color combo, please tell me this since you are a torch artist, if you used old Akro cullet would this even be possible?? I had Roger Hardys contact info at one point in time a few years back, as many little scribbles on pieces of paper go it has disapeared and I can not locate it, since I'm not a huge Akro collector, perhaps he's the one who might possibly be able to shed some light on the subject, at this point it is merley speculation and thoughts of others points of veiw reguarding this object most likely a (one of) type of item since I know of no one who has a similar or seen anything else in the relm of this figure, and yes the only company that I'm aware of to use this color combination is Akro. Also note the dogs belly Ann, all white, I believe or at least all of the antique/ vintage beads Ive seen are 360 degree color or pattern not half pattern and half white, the ashtray thought is just my opinion it seems to make the most sense to me. DB.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, If you were to (torch) vintage or Antique glass such as Akro Cullet just for an example dont you think it would drasticaly affect the color? especially oxblood? DB.

The second group of photos, has it next to a ruler (approx) 2 in long I didnt measure the width, My thoughts on the Ashtray glass was due to the white,and definetly the oxblood and basically the color combo in general that would lead to someone messin around at Akro, The white as a base for would be fairly uncommon in a Blue Oxblood marble, as where some of the Ashtrays match the colors pretty closely, but thats just a guess on my part, interesting piece for sure.

No fracture, some type of light refraction, a very thin oxblood line there as well I understand it looks like that in the photo, but there is no Fracture perhaps the angle. DB.

No fractures on the piece that I saw, I think its a play on the lighting in the photo, could very well be a freehand piece, I think it would be fairly tough to accomplish with a chunk of cullet and torch, my very first thought when I saw it a few years ago was perhaps when they were making the ashtrays someone took a hot piece folded it and pulled the legs, then added the ears and eyes, one might get a we bit bored making ashtrays all day, and as you mentioned perhaps just took it home to the kids, the owner thinks its fairly special and was considering letting me bring it to the Des Moines marble show, only problem he doesnt know what to value it at? and I cant really giveany help in the area,as mentioned This is the only one Ive ever seen of any animal made of or with a blue ox glass. It's odd, if it were made from a mold, wouldn't you think you would see a few more around? I agree that the eyes and ears were added after the body was made, It looks more like the Ashtray glass, and yes the way the hair or fur is around the neck going onto the back is real cool, or just a great thought by the maker. A friend of mine owns this and his thoughts on it are as well as several other collectors that perhaps it was made by an Akro employee just messin around on a break or after work, I've personally have never seen anything like it, and most likely a 1 of a kind type of object, if anyone here has seen anything like it or owns anything similar I'd love to see it, anyway he's curious on a value? I have no idea myself do to it's rareity and nothing to compair it to, He might let me take it to Des Moines show if anyone has an interest, PM me your email for plenty of Angles of this little guy, very cool Item DB.
