  1. Thanks for taking a look cheese, i'm thinking the same champion or maybe alley after seeing WVRons champions yesterday, another bit of cullet from Alley Pennsboro turned up today but i would still be 50 50

  2. Thanks Steph yes she likes the cullet she found a piece from the local glass bottle works here a couple years back on some vacant land and when i showed her this stuff for sale she jumped at it

Here is the first piece she found The Perth Glass Works used recycled glass much the same as the US marble makers but there is no evidence they made marbles pretty good match for some of the slags i find though and the owner certainly had the Glass blower skills

Kaitlyn is also a keen antique bottle collector and has had a couple of displays at our annual state collectors show, This year we may do a combined father daughter marble display marbles have never been shown before in the history of the club

  4. Digging the pictures posted guys some nice mibs

Hi Darla love those 2 marbles and i saw them in the other threads the first one i would say in not a transitional but a handmade, the reason i say that is the pontil is still intact it hasn't been altered at the end of the marble making process which basically tells me it wasn't rounded mechanically it also does not exhibit any wear so the pontil is as clearly visible as the day it was made

The term transitional comes from the marble being hand gathered cut with scissors drop into machine rollers to be rounded part handmade part machine Transitional

Handmades were cut from a long length of " Cane " the cut piece attached to a rod and the marble rounded in a cup no machine hence all hand made

Also Edit Or hand gathered as slag types

the second marble is a little more tricky but i'm still of the opinion its a handmade as it gives the impression of a pontil and not a shear mark

Here below is a pic of a genuine handmade pontil i know this is genuine as like all my collection i found this marble this particular marble was under a house it had rolled between the floor boards and the back door sill and dropped down under the house onto the dirt below were it waited for probably at least a hundred years for me to come along with oodles of enthusiasm armed with sheer determination a dust mask and a little weed rake squeezing into an under house crawl space that tight a 90 kilo man has no business being there

Any way back to the topic at hand

as the picture shows the pontil on this guy shows the circle like yours created when the rod attached to the now rounded marble was snapped off

The marble below doesn't show a pontil but a cut line in the first picture were the marble was cut of the rod with scissors

  5. I pulled this one out of the Ground some time back it wasn't in a trash hole,

I dig for antique bottles and often find marbles in among Mom's kitchen trash EXample broken pickle jars sauce bottles milk bottles things like that that are dateable so i can often date a marble as this dates 1930 40 or before as this pickle is a 1940 model

this guy was more just random in the top layer of dirt not mixed in with anything i think its old but ive got a ways to go with my education

    any thought appreciated :)

  8. Well i finally after 12 months of hanging around on the forums i've let the moths out of my wallet and bought some Marbles very happy with my purchase I bought these in BST on the other forum the Seller Gregor threw in a bunch for free and Put them in little bags with ID tags

These were actually for my 7 year old daughter Kaitlyn who is keen to collect, she managed to earn a few bucks out of me and decided she wouldn't mind a few marbles with the cash

The first 2 pictured were my original purchase the rest are the free bees
