I agree with the one that Rick has a link to looking like a "Jabo". Here's one of my slags, has what appears to be an amber base with a tail running into a very defined & straight cut line in the back, sorry no pics of the cutline yet. A very creamy looking, with almost white swirls in it. My best guess is MFC for this one. All "I" can say about Gina's is it looks handgathered, I'm on the fence like Steph as far as a positive I.D. All the handgather's kinda meld together for me.

Another I just trade away last week with a very similar pattern & the same straight cut on the back. This one is definitely has an amber base.

"I" also attribute this to MFC.

I love that yellow slag. Do you also own that yellow layered sand you showed me? So beautiful, I just hate when they mislabel and mislead. I will find a real MF Christensen one day. My quest is not complete!

Correct Gina, to qualify as a Popeye must have a clear transparent base & secondly white whispy strands, yours indeed sounds like what is being called a liberty corkscrew. I hope this eliminates some of the confusion for you ??

    Akro Liberty Corkscrew, (opaque everything)

It does about Popeyes, but now the Akro “Liberty” how many variations can there be? I had a positive ID before I bought mine, so is this really an Akro Liberty?

Another link from right here & some pix Steph submitted showing the difference between a regular popeye & a patch, also for Rick a red white & blue example, I believe I've seen every color patch including some so called (Hybrids)

I have an Akro “Liberty” corkscrew  somewhat like the Popeye and something that looks similar to that patch but the white is opaque, so it wouldn’t be a Popeye. It’s rather confusing. I cannot take pics right now because the cat is not having it!

I think this is a Popeye patch. It's my only one. If it turns out not to be a Popeye, then I have zero.  I think they are harder to find than Popeye corks. This one has a pea soup green that is not too common. thanks

    It’s pretty.

  5. Thank you all for the photographs and articles, I really appreciate your assistance. I have looked at that marble collecting site frequently. Once I am able to see better, I sincerely hope I can ascertain, what I have to sort them properly, 3/4 of them I have no idea what they are. It is really wonderful of you all to be so helpful.

  6. I am unsure about the whole range and variations of Popeyes. Can they be swirls and corkscrews and still be Popeyes? What makes them Popeyes? I thought I knew, I’ve looked at identification guides and still there are maybe three marbles I can positively ID without asking, otherwise I’m lost in swirls, flames, slags, opaques and new manufacturers. Does every newbie feel like Alice or Allen in Wonderland without the white rabbit’s help? Maybe it’s just me. Thank you.

I just posted pics of Pelts I’d like to trade or sell. It’s hard packing up my collection but I’d like to put groups together and not rip off Newbies and sell them here !

OMG, I don’t think I have enough posts yet, I have been waiting to see the seller’s page. I over spent and should have done more research before I found this group so I am that newbie you describe! FOMO def happening here!

  8. I honestly never realized the variety of alleys or other marbles and how hard a marble dig actually was until I saw the videos of Heaton and the others you all sent me. Then on another site I stumbled across photographs of a Pennsboro, WV dig at the Alley factory and it was led by WVRON, I immediately recognized him as a member of this group. Man, was I in awe of the hard work you all put in, but the rewards of going through all of that material must have made you giddy. I recently purchased a pound from that area and spent most of the day going through the misshapen bits and found some nice common alleys, but the little mistakes were the fun ones for me. I felt like I was eight years old and that was a heck of a long time ago! I ordered the rest the gentleman had, it was inexpensive, it is just going through the marbles, so fun. Then I saw Chad’s gallery photos of his alley collectIon, along with his other goodies and it was just bursts of color and beauty, on every page. The collections you all have are just amazing. Thank you for opening my eyes to new manufacturers and a colorful, fun hobby-except the actual dig, I could not do that physically but if I could I’d be down in a hole or cave some where. Really great stuff. Thank you.

  9. These are three closer photos, that have me wondering. It looks like the light is causing the color change, I do not know enough to tell and really appreciate your comments.6E2A1674-4488-4131-BC18-263D6AEBE2A1.thumb.jpeg.8f73d9442ddead027bd67996a88d9c0e.jpegD6253AEC-5D7D-4169-A366-AA46FB451FF5.thumb.jpeg.1be75685eab9ef2524e693ff2c41d8fa.jpegC97997EF-0EF8-4151-8679-42E7D4C7868A.thumb.jpeg.36b2573868773e496089d879032bd742.jpeg

Christensen Agate had some handgathered marbles, beyond their basic slags.  Galen posted a few.

With more than one color in the amber base, I'd looked to CAC before MFC. Where can I see Galen’s post? Thank you.

I'd like to wish you well with your health and your upcoming procedure...I was a caregiver (CNA) for almost 10 years and a caregiver at home from 2015-18 so I can feel what you have and are going to go through. You will break through 😊....as far as the folks here, just gotta love all the positives. Couldn't be a better group of people 👍

Thank you so much, it’s from medication I’ve taken since birth, mostly steroids like prednisone and salumedrol for my lungs. Luckily I didn’t wait longer to see eye doctor, pressure behind eyes became really bad and COVID made me afraid to leave the house, I finally went after vaccination  and couldn’t see out of my left eye when tested, well it was blurry, which caused me to freak out. I’m sure it’ll be fine. I just hate not being able to read! Thank you again for your kind well wishes.

Hold out. Don't jump on this one. It's worth looking for down the road. Tell him I proudly worked side by the BIA in the 4 Corners area here out West for 10 years. I learned a lot. My Mom is pro active with the tribes in North And South Dakota. I also worked in Alaska as a Fire Fighter and trained a lot of the Athabascan tribes in Alaska how to fight fires for 10 years as well.

It is my pleasure to know you and I appreciate all you do for indigenous people. I love the four corners area. I’ve been to Denver many times to National Jewish Health-best pulmonary doctors in the country IMHO. I work a lot with Lakota Law Society and Pine Ridge Reservation- One Spirit, which is for the children. People have the misconception in the east that all Indian tribes have casinos and are doing quite well. You tour Pine Ridge or Rosebud and it is like a third world country. So sad from the richest nation in the world  when you see some of the people who have more money than they’ll ever spend and the dire poverty of the original Americans. Sorry I’ll get off my soapbox, now!
