Range from about 13.8-15.8mm Do opaque whisplers even exist?

5/8 Struggling to capture the depth and variety of colour on this swirl, had to use flash to get as close as I could. Tan, then thin red line, then grayish purple and brown, all seem opaque.

Wishing you all the best for your recovery. Finding this hobby and forum also came to me at a very difficult time in my life, just when I needed it. The respect between users, passion displayed and the neverending beauty and mystery of these marbles means it is such a nice place to spend time.

@shiroaiko, that is very good advice. Most of my lots have come from Ebay sellers, and I suppose it never occurred to me to ask history as I didn't want to 'bother' anyone unnecessarily, especially those trying to make a living. Some people may even appreciate the interest.

In fact, these came in the collection too, which definitely point towards Japanese to me after looking at your pictures.

Yes, good point. Seike isn't one that I've spent a lot of time looking into yet (I had forgotten that I intended to at some point, probably getting distracted by another avenue), so will spend some time seeing what I notice.

And finally...I think we are all agreed these are definitely veiligglas?

A real beauty. I've added some with a couple of the opaques to show some strong similarities in the surface lines.

31/32, lovely bright orange. This one confused me a bit, so I took some pictures with the smaller orange and white ones from the Gibson solitaire board. The shade is very similar, but I think the definition of the lines and glass quality can clearly be seen to differ.

Pretty standard, but nice clear structureto the lines, 29/32.

7/8 Some striations can be seen on surface, same as the blues. Ever such a slight companion line in green within this one.

31/32 Slight blue-ish hint to some of the surface white.

Yep - it's stunning, that one, hard to fully capture though!

I'll start with the 2 very similar blues. They both have a white line as well, however this is very faint within one, this one also has a large bubble. Faint striations can be seen on the surface of the clear glass on both. The white follows a similar pattern to the blue, however definitely deviates from the path of the blue line in both. Size 7/8. First 3 pics are same marble, next 2 are the other.

Finally ready to put up some more pictures and ensure this discussion slowly rumbles onwards. It's taken me a while to edit these. My current knowledge is leading me to put this group down as veiligglas, although I'm not quite sure about the 2 smaller blue and white ones (both 7/8). Individual pics to follow.

Hmm, but at which point does something change classification from swirl to wirepull if it is one thread? Something to do with the construction or manufacturing method? I'll do some closer inspections. From AAM - On the Euro-wirepull types, the ribbon usually stays pretty uniform in width for the most part, meaning it doesn't taper much and stays the same thickness though out the swirling pattern. It would be very unusual to have a wispy white ribbon. The definition of a "Wirepull" is one continuous ribbon that doesn't break off. But, guess what? Many USA swirls are made the same way and do the same thing, but vary in ways of the ribbon staying more uniform. If enough wirepulls are investigated, examples will be found where they do taper and swell but it is a numbers/percentage concept. Many more WV swirls that taper and swell will be found than Euro-wirepull types tapering and swelling.

Yeah, I've tried following them and think a few of them seem continuous, I'll try to keep this in mind..
