Yep, that could make sense...
-
Good point, would you say those are the Japanese figure 8s?
-
Ooh, interesting. The pink on the left one seems very close to another pelt I'll put up for comparison when I get the chance.
-
That's what I was hoping 😀

39/64 Translucent green, opaque white with a few very fine metallic lines. Sorry - I know the pics aren't great.
-
19/32, opaque. Faint grey/tan tracer/accent along one edge of the white. Faint blue/grey along the other edge, perhaps this bleeding from the black indicates a certain maker?
-
9/16 A few faint crease lines and a sort of surface pit, but these don't look like pocjet or impact damage.

No, you're absolutely right. I have a bunch of keepers that I've separated out. Some just because I like the colours, others for the crazy big bubbles or crackles you can see. Also - when I got a good lot of akro, pelts and ravenswood recently, I'd set aside the very small amount of 'junk', a couple of weeks later it occurred to me that in my excitement of all the other stuff, I'd actually assigned about 6 japanese 3 color 9 vane cats as junk!

Sorry about the reflection, going away for a few days and going to try to get a bunch up before leaving...and now one of my children is climbing on me 🫠19/32 Transparent light blue, opaque white bands, mostly on surface but one goes through the centre.

Oh dear, thanks for the warning. I had high hopes, when I started collecting marbles, that I could hit up my uncle for some interesting stuff. Come Christmas and he gives me a little bag of common cats and informs me that they are "sheep's eyes"... I know he meant well, but this man has spent his life dealing antiques and doing house clearances, I dread to think what he's let slip through his fingers!
-
Aha, I did stumble across something about that. Thanks for confirmation 😀

I spotted these, so started looking things up and learning about gutta percha. I'm not interested or confident enough in my ID skills, to bid on these, but I thought it could be a useful discussion on here. And maybe another collector might like to go for them...It's a UK auction though. https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/eastbourne-auction-rooms/catalogue-id-srea10130/lot-1291fc1e-7c5f-4fa2-9b29-b2d800fd8554

Thanks. I bid a bit of a silly amount to secure the little lot this was in (don't worry, nothing too silly), because I just love that aqua colour and needed the comfort of some marble mail heading my way that week!

Here's some more pics of the little 'un, on a different background to show more definition. Because of the sense of life and movement shown within it, it honestly feels like a moment in time, captured within the glass, if that makes sense? And that, alongside its tiny size, makes it an absolute keeper.

Almost exactly 11/16. Browny-purple swirls extending into marble. Base glass classed as translucent I think?
-
Just over 11/16. Dark browny-purple swirl, extending into the marble. Also seem to be "accent" swirls in the grey. Mostly opaque, transparency in base glass along swirls. Pit mark photo 6?
-
A touch under 11/16. Orangey red ribbons, ending abruptly. Mostly opaque, a few areas that seem more transparent.
-
1/2 I doubt this is classed as oxblood, but ITH I can only describe it as looking like a drop of blood swirling out in some water. White swirl and filaments present too. Unfortunately got a fracture.

I love these beauties. I took a punt on an auction, couldn't quite tell from the pictures what was in there, apart from a popeye, which was what gave me the confidence to go for it.

The West Virginia Swirls book is now available

I'll need to save up for this, especially considering I'm going to have to negotiate UK postage if that's even going to be possible!? I definitely need this book though 😀 Well done! -
