  1. And finally...I think we are all agreed these are definitely veiligglas?
  2. A real beauty. I've added some with a couple of the opaques to show some strong similarities in the surface lines.
  3. 31/32, lovely bright orange. This one confused me a bit, so I took some pictures with the smaller orange and white ones from the Gibson solitaire board. The shade is very similar, but I think the definition of the lines and glass quality can clearly be seen to differ.
  4. 7/8 Some striations can be seen on surface, same as the blues. Ever such a slight companion line in green within this one.
  5. I'll start with the 2 very similar blues. They both have a white line as well, however this is very faint within one, this one also has a large bubble. Faint striations can be seen on the surface of the clear glass on both. The white follows a similar pattern to the blue, however definitely deviates from the path of the blue line in both. Size 7/8. First 3 pics are same marble, next 2 are the other.
  6. Finally ready to put up some more pictures and ensure this discussion slowly rumbles onwards. It's taken me a while to edit these. My current knowledge is leading me to put this group down as veiligglas, although I'm not quite sure about the 2 smaller blue and white ones (both 7/8). Individual pics to follow.
  7. Hmm, but at which point does something change classification from swirl to wirepull if it is one thread? Something to do with the construction or manufacturing method? I'll do some closer inspections. From AAM - On the Euro-wirepull types, the ribbon usually stays pretty uniform in width for the most part, meaning it doesn't taper much and stays the same thickness though out the swirling pattern. It would be very unusual to have a wispy white ribbon. The definition of a "Wirepull" is one continuous ribbon that doesn't break off. But, guess what? Many USA swirls are made the same way and do the same thing, but vary in ways of the ribbon staying more uniform. If enough wirepulls are investigated, examples will be found where they do taper and swell but it is a numbers/percentage concept. Many more WV swirls that taper and swell will be found than Euro-wirepull types tapering and swelling.
  8. Yeah, I've tried following them and think a few of them seem continuous, I'll try to keep this in mind..
  9. Thanks so much, that's very helpful. I hadn't seen any of theses ITH yet, so couldn't place them. They aren't in the greatest condition, but definitely a step on for my learning.
  10. Swirl left, wirepull right? Both just under 5/8.
  11. Erm don't know, not sure why these are foxing me so much, but they are. 5/8.
  12. I would guess 2 swirls on the left (maker suggestions welcome, if so), 2 wirepulls on the right? All around 5/8.
  13. Seeing this beauty gave me the encouragement I needed to make an offer on a lot that has 4 of these opaques & 6/7 transparent wirepulls (and about 60 other marbles that I could do without). Will post pics when they arrive.
  14. Agreed, I have these, which live with my other Japanese transistionals.
  15. Yeah, I agree, especially when I consider how long they must have been together for. If I did pass any on, I'd at least keep a neat little trio.
  16. Thanks for the offer, however I think postage may be a little steep!
  17. Yep, you're right. I spotted one included in an Ebay lot of marbles last week and looked up what it was. Weird that this topic should come up so soon on here, and even weirder that only a few days before that, me and my son had been looking up what the most sides a dice can have is. I didn't bother bidding, but I'd like to pick one up at some point.
  18. Aha, thanks for that info. I might offer a few of these up for swaps at some point, if anyone in the UK is interested.
  19. Yeah, I thought it may be a swirl, but wasn't sure because it's not that "swirly". Thanks!
  20. I put up the one on the right yesterday on Peltier Tuesdays, then started to wonder more about it. Both 5/8 and came in a lot including the other group of Peltiers that I just posted.
  21. These all came together and spotting this picture, can see that they probably originated together. I get the feeling they are some of the older Pelts? They also came with 2 others, which I'll post separately. All 5/8.
