Steph
Was this box an Akro item? Of course I know they had stained glass boxes. Not familiar with this one though. Can't remember seeing any with black inside. auction again (the one Bill posted)
marblemansion
I have no idea if its an actual original box from Akro and I wondered about the price too...but I put it down to that "type" of box is even more rare than the blue Akro tins....a box similar to that one is pictured in Hardy's book - the "art deco" look - I am not at home right now so I can't look it up - but I know I have seen one very similar ... the marbles certainly don't look mint and they don't fit very well - it may not be original huh. Maybe someone knows more.
lstmmrbls
Crazy price for a ruined partially backfilled Akro gift box IMO. guess someone really wanted it.
marblemansion
Crazy price for a ruined partially backfilled Akro gift box IMO. guess someone really wanted it. so you do think the box was actually Akro? I was wondering about the missing interior label - Akro usually had this imprinted on the inner box top - no?
Steph
For what it's worth, there appear to have been Akro boxes which weren't stamped Akro. A couple of discussions have been had about that here. In some of the gift sets it seems that the ID was done with an insert on a separate card. Lose the card and lose the ID. I gather that most were marked in a permanent fashion tho'. I still don't know what to think about the black interior.
marblemansion
well, based on that - maybe this type of box is more on the rare side than other Akro boxes - and thats why the price went so high - I have never collected such expensive boxes - yet

spara50
You guys need to invest in a few marble books...LOL. Here is a page from the Marble Mania book showing some of Akros stained glass boxes. There are others as well. These gift sets are the more rare Akro boxes. marblemansion
well How did you copy the pics from ebay ? Mike If you are running Microsoft windows right click the image and then use the drop down screen to "file save" or you can copy and paste into a folder - or you can go to the properties and capture the URL and post it that way too...
