99marbles131
any thoughts on what this may be. I'm thinking a bear of some sort, but I was hoping for a more specific description. also any thoughts on value? Not polished and 2" diameter. mmuehlba
I think they call that figure an Ape . looks nice and a good size well centered. . almost looks like a scanned picture . a marble that size will show signs on the outside so it it is perfect with no ripples ?? lstmmrbls
I agree with mike. It does look polished in the pics.
99marbles131
It's not a scanned pic. I took it myself, but looking at the bottom of the mib, there's still a raised part in the glass. I know it's not a pontil, but I think it's where the figure was inserted. I have some polished mibs where you can see a little surface evidence of polishing, and this one just has a few scratches, (I know that scratches CAN look like polishing, but this definitely is not) but no chips. I know it looks too clean to NOT be polished, but I'm 99% sure it's not. (haha... get it... 99?) But for discussion sake... what could this be valued at as polished and not polished? 99marbles131
the part where I said there's a raised part can barely been seen in the bottom right pic where the reflection is on the surface.
lstmmrbls
The reason it look polished is because sulphides of that size almost all ways show concentric ridges that encircle the marble. They are part of the process from the original rounding. I have never seen an original surfaced sulphide of a larger size that did not have these ridges. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=bear+sulphide&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=jabo-+southern_marbles-&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_okw=bear+sulphide&_oexkw=jabo-+southern_marbles-&_adv=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo=&_sabdhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=Zip+code&_fsct=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_ipg=50 http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_nkw=bear+sulphide&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=jabo-+southern_marbles-&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_okw=bear+sulphide&_oexkw=jabo-+southern_marbles-&_adv=1&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=Zip+code&_fsct=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=1&_dmd=1&_ipg=
