What Camera Do You Use To Take Quality Pictures Of Your Marbles?

All of my images in the past year or so have been taken with a Sony HX10 that I bought off Ebay for under $200. Another $50-$60 for a lightbox setup off of Ebay and 20 bucks for a tripod, and you're good to go. There is absolutely no reason to spend anywhere near $500 for a camera to take marble pictures.

when looking at what camera to buy take a pair of marbles with you to the local camera shop one slag type and one multicolor opaque

ask the salespereson to show you how to use the salespersons recomended camera choices at least three different cameras take pictures of both marbles in the store have the store download the pictures to the stores computer and compare results do not buy anything yet repeat the process at a competitors store compare results and prices then choose

Wasn't of much help before, so let me add another two cents.

If you want to blow your budget, you could find a terrific used

macro lens from one of the top makes, add a used body, and

you'd have a serious 'dedicated' marble camera. But to tell you

the truth, I did this about a year ago and have yet to take a shot

that I enjoy as much as shots I've taken with my other camera.

The new photos are technically a little better, at least when you

blow them up to 13x19 prints, shine a spot light on them, and put

on your reading glasses. Valid, but geesh.

My favorite 'overall' camera of all time is the Lumix (Panasonic) FZ-30.

Its 'macro setting' quality is outstanding.

In normal use it has a focal length zoom equivalent of 35-420mm.

Lens designed by Leica.

It's relatively small, lightweight, and a total instinctive joy to use.

You can find a used one for a song, and it's the bargain of all time. ( :

Here are some shots.

Echo Zaboo ....I love em both Bob.

The detail is amazing as always!

Here's a few lame shot attempts at the migrating humming birds that stop and feed on our sugar water feeders every summer and fall.

Sometimes there will be four or five at once and they will get very aggressive.

It's been a few days since we have seen any so they may have moved on to warmer air.

No marbles and the detail is lame compared to your images but it is still fun to share:-)

BT

Edit:

In between the second and third Humming bird shots is an image of marble stuff, playing cards, letter openers, and a marble button, but again no where near the detail of your sweet images Bob:-)! The marbles belonged to Ken H. The other stuff is mine.

Thanks for looking:-)

I don't use flash when taking pictures of marbles, and when I do use flash for indoor photos, it doesn't usually wash things out.

Read posts #15 thru #18 in the following thread.

thanks Steve, the base in blue is not white. flash washes it out. it has the same color base as all the blue angels I am seeing here actually. :-) in fact it looks like a twin to the one marblemiser posted. hey and thanks for the compliment miser!

zaboo's auctions, and also ebay's zaboo2smarbles

10 year old camera only has 2 flash settings. rofllllllllll

Thank you both for the compliments.

The hummingbirds and the still scene are both great.

I've tried shooting hummingbirds a few times without much success.

Was starting to talk too much last night, but wanted to say that anyone

who follows 'zaboo's auctions' (and you should!) knows how excellent

both the photos and marbles are. And will be impressed with how

minimalist the equipment mentioned earlier is. Megapixels are overrated.

Here's another shot from the Lumix, which, like the 'bee and cats',

also features zaboo marbles. 'Horse Hairs' hint-hint in this case.
