Mattshaw1953
Are these end of cane oddities or beautiful mistakes? They came with a large group of banded transparents/Joseph coats, the group includes a lot of oddities, one of the three has a multi colour latticino string core, I actually bought them to fill a solitaire, I assumed they were 1/2" ish, I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived, as they are knocking on 7/8", ha ha!! Anyway are they end of cane banded transparents/Joseph coats, or something else?

tallnbald76
I would actually question if they are possibly newer. The color combinations does not look right especially the light blue the way it is. The colors look almost to vibrant or some thing. I could be completely wrong but that is just my opinion. Mattshaw1953
I'll stick my neck out and say they are 100% Antique, I'll post a pick of the whole group tomorrow, I do however value you're opinion.
Swissmarble
I'll stick my neck out and say they are 100% Antique, I'll post a pick of the whole group tomorrow, I do however value you're opinion. I am sure they are old. These are similar to the marbles I posted some months ago, remember ? The single-pontil end of days. I assume they were made between 1920 and 1930 and probably not many of them found their way to the US in these days. I have 7 of this kind of marbles in the meantime and all from different sources. And they always came in a group with antique German marbles. I call these just "end-of-day"-marbles because they don't fit in a group. There is a similar type of these marbles which have two pontils (do your marbles have one or two pontils ?) This is one I just picked up a week ago: Ron

ann
The colors are bright and opaque, but right for that late date in the life of cane-cut marbles. Remember the so-called "English" colors that started appearing a little before then. And who knows -- maybe the asymmetrical "chance" placement of colors in end-of-cane types appealed to a more "modern" sensibility . . .

I'llhavethat1
To me these examples look like they didn't pass muster at the time (for roundness or quality) and probably got junked. They really are pretty though
Mattshaw1953
So although they may have been Scrapped, they may be the Prettiest of the groupww????
I'llhavethat1
So although they may have been Scrapped, they may be the Prettiest of the groupww???? Quite possible. Quality control sometimes calls for things other than aesthetics. ie: the marble needs to be round, so it rolls. And if it's chipped or damaged in production they probably wouldn't spend the time to finish it/ship it/etc. Don't get me wrong I think the colors and patterns are beautiful. Also the group of three look awesome together

Mattshaw1953
I don't think they have been torched, I think they are just as they were when made, I'm in the UK, I don't think I've seen a torched marble over here.
