Steph
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-230-Akro-Agate-Marble-Box-5-8-21-32-/361526220624? I don't remember ever seeing a box with this general decoration with a clear window. And as an added twist it appears to have some nice early Masters in it. Al Oregon
Here's a picture of one with cellophane top from Morphy's Auction (3-2013)
rockinron110
George Sorlis (sp??) did a presentation at the Decatur show and explained that when Master Glass Company purchased Akro they filled the boxes with Masters and old Akro Stock. George has a book that is coming out later this month about the whole history of Master including the Akro and other purchases. Looking forward to the book,
Steph
George is a font of knowledge. I should ask him about this box. I thought about this being after the Master purchase of Akro. However, the Master marbles are from the beginning of the Master production ... so 20 years before that purchase. P.s. Sourlis
Steph
Al, comparing the marbles and the box damage, it looks like the same box.
jeeperman
I agree Steph, the exact same box. Pics are slightly off color from one another but it is the same box.
Al Oregon
Agreed on box being the same. I'm looking forward to George's book (and any new marble book)!
Steph
Checked with George. He pointed out that it's the same box as in Marble Mania, p. 108. The only one he's seen like that. He's been pondering this one off and on for a long time.
Steph
George gives 1948 to 1957 as estimates for that box style (without the cellophane and cutout). Also the bag is likely to be from the 1950s.
