what is a brushed marble

Recommended Posts

My understanding (newbie warning :excl:) is that it's a thin layer of coloured glass brushed on either a  transparent body or the base colour if the marble isn't clear. I'm pretty sure Vitro Conquerors were this type.

It's the white which almost seems to have been painted on the surface.   (Edit: Richard mentioned coloured glass without specifying white -- and now I'm not sure why I said "white" without thinking of other colors -- need to hear from others.)

Yes, Conquerors are sometimes thought of as brushed patches -- though since they have another name I sometimes forget they're described like that.  Some Masters are called brushed patches. This one from MarbleAlan's site is a classic example.

Of course it's not really "brushed".  The molten white glass would be injected somehow into the side of the other streams of molten glass.  How they kept it all where it was supposed to be, I don't know.
