marblenewbie
The one on the right I believe is an Akro Popeye Cork that is .68. I think it may be a hybrid of some kind? The one on the left I think is an Alley Flame .70, although it could be CAC. Any thoughts on either would be appreciated!!
wvrons
Alley on the left. Akro corkscrew on the right. I would not label it any hybrid. What is hybrid about it ? Not sure I have seen any Akro corkscrew that I would label hybrid. They made about every combination of every color possible.

Popeyes have transparent clear, whispy white and at least two other colors - red with yellow, and green with yellow, are the most common color combinations, but there are others, and exceptional examples can have three or four colors with the white and transparent glass. marblenewbie
So, I guess I was halfway right as it is a Popeye and has 3 colors not including white. t has red, blue and a thin line of orange as I see it. Thanks Ric!
Ric
It's not a Popeye.
marblenewbie
Thanks Rik now I see. I thought Popeyes only had to have a small transparent window and I'm not even sure this one has that.
jameswymer
Here is a photo I have of a Popeye. Colors can vary, but this is how they look. That whispy stringy white is necessary. This is a beat up example, but probably about the most common color combination. I had trouble identifying Popeyes at first. I went to a marble show and had some in my hands and it made sense after that.
wvrons
The very first requirement for a Akro Popeye is a clear base. A clear base with white striations or white strands(not solid), plus two or more other colors. They can be a corkscrew or patch type. Clear base, white strands and three or more colors are hybrid Popeye's and much more valuable. Hybrid Popeyes
marblenewbie
Wow, you guys are great. Now I have a clear understanding of a Popeye. What a club! I wouldn't be very far along in identification without it.
