Hello everyone. I LOVE MARBLES!

So, before I ask you guys to help and share you’re expertise I wanted to give something in return. Unfortunately all I have to offer at this time is a story of how I came to be a collector. When I was about 15, my grandpa, during the summer, showed up and handed me this large cheese crate. Or at least a cheese crate is what I was told it was. It was much larger than I expect to be the housing for a wheel of cheese. Well inside this cheese crate was slap full of these old marbles. For a time It caught my interest but not for long. He told me a few stories of the times that with a handful of marbles and would come home with his pockets full from playing in his one room school house he attended as a young southern boy in Louisiana, where I also grew up. Well the marbles kept me entertained for a little while but they eventually just ended up in the top of my closest. Fast forward to a little over a year ago. At now 34 years old and living on my own in Phoenix Arizona and with, for the first time, financial struggles that I honestly have no idea how I’m going to get through it. So I reach out to my dad, (all of my family still lives in Louisiana) and I ask him to ship me those marbles. I’m up front with him and my intentions of hoping vintage marbles carry a value and wishing for a miracle that somehow I have something of value. He agrees to send them to me. I get the marbles a few days later. During my research I quickly find out how impossible it will be to learn all there is about marbles. Or at least enough to feel confident I know what I’m telling people when I go to try and sell them. About the time that I learn enough to start selling the easy ones, I can’t. Can’t let them go, I love them. And I want more. So yeah, instead of selling my old marbles I instead decided buying them would be a much better idea. I have grown increasingly obsessed with marbles and the hunt drives me. Well I really really need to get my act together. Ha ha. But seriously, marbles. I love them. I feel like a contradiction for having to sell them but I’m at the end of my rope. I’m left with no alternative choice. I wish I knew enough about them to know which ones are the ones best to spend my time on but when I fell in love with them I loved them all. I paid attention to which ones I liked instead of which ones are worth the most. Okay, enough complaining. Here is some photos. I have numbered them for better reference. I promise to not talk so much in my next post. Thank you for you help and attention.

Lots of alleys…..good ones! I the really white and blue is cutlet glass i believe. The one with the ox hair is beautiful. I collect ! Not a seller…But you may have a CAC or 2. The flames with tip have value. So that being said you have some value in your marbles

That is actually my purpose for trying to identify. Life has gotten me down and I need to sell. I have what I consider a large collection. Few thousand. Of course it’s a wide variety of marbles. Aside from the thousand I’m not counting Catseyes, clearies or game marbles. Am I allowed to post marbles for sale? I should go and search for rules on the subject. I most certainly my don’t want to be disrespectful and try to turn this forum into a market place. I do however have a desire to sell any and all of my collection. Not all in one lot of course but not necessarily just one at a time. Could anyone elaborate on my best approach for getting at least 50% to 75% of market value? I seriously don’t want full market value because that takes away something that I enjoy and that’s giving. I love to give. Not joking on this. As a kid I would get in trouble, like spanking, time out, and groundings for giving away my most favorite toys growing up. I couldn’t help it. I would love my toy so much I hated thinking about others not getting the chance to enjoy it too, soo many times I would do this. My parents could tell many stories. It’s their fault really, they were givers too. I remember on more than one occasion my dad leaving late at night to sneak tires on a family friends vehicle that was in desperate need but couldn’t afford to get a new set. I accidentally told on them one time not knowing they wanted to remain anonymous. Anyhow, enough of that rant. Any pointers would be much appreciated. I would say quick sales might be my only option to get out of the mess I’m in. As always, thank you so much for any time you guys give in reading my comments.

I appreciate what Chad has said.
There is no one here willing to take advantage of a newer collector.
Make your mark here and take advantage of the rules.
This place is just a great place to be!

Not if you’re electricity is turned off and you can see in the dark… 😳

100 posts before you can sell.. I think that is a really great rule actually. But wait, does that mean that only other people that has posted 100 times will be able to see my for sales?

Yes, 100 posts before you can buy or sell. We had to implement something to protect everyone here from scammers so the 100 post minimum is used. Generally only the people who are serious collectors will stay and post over 100 times anyway, hang in there.  :)

I still think it's a great rule. Once a person gets there they know that anyone that they are dealing with has been very intentional in order to be able to do business with you. Im assuming submitting replies to a topic doesn't count towards the 100. It needs to be 100 freshly created topics?

It doesn't matter if it's a reply or a new post. Every post you make counts toward your 100, look below your avatar, your number just went up from 18 to 19   :)
