Robinson Road and Tunnels

The road and tunnel slag is a distinctive new style of
marble which relates directly back to the first
machine made marbles of the 20th century. This was a
transition period when efforts were being made to move
from handmade marbles to machine made marbles. Like
those earlier transition marbles the road and tunnel
slags are hand gathered, hand sheared and then rounded
on a simple machine.
The road and tunnel is a complex personal signature as
those in the early hand gathered marbles. The swirling
lines are as distinctive as the "9" of M.F.
Christensen Co. or the turkey and diaper fold in the
marbles from the Christensen Agate Co.
When you view the marble directly at the cut off
point, the series of lines from the lower right side
forms the impression of a road approaching a tunnel.
The tunnel is a series (upside down u shaped lines)
above the cutoff point. A typical example looks the
tunnel on one side of the cut with the road on other
side of cutoff. These were made by Chris Robinson in
1994 and are between 1 1/8" to 1 1/4".
