It is a funnel.Β  Look at the glass to tell you what was being made at the time it was retired.

Β

I have two Akro Agate funnels:

The first has translucent olive green glass with oxblood.

Β

The second has a little bit of everything stuck to the top, including a marble.Β  The clear glass is a bit visually interesting because of the ghostly blue that is wafting through it.

As I understand it, this was the device that "funneled" the glass into the cutters.

It would have been the last thing that the molten glass in the kiln saw before being cutoff onto the rollers.

A solid flow came through this thing, was cutoff and then the glass glob hit the rollers--making a marble.

Very cool!!

Marble--On!!
