ArtGLove
What's it worth by individual bag or as a collection? If I were to play detective, I would say they are from the 60's? Since the aged plastic is no longer clear, it's challenging to identify what I have here except Rainbow, Marine Puries, Cat's Eye and Vitro Cat Eyes. I would appreciate some Expert Aficionado Eyes to figure out what's in there?
Al Oregon
Packaging has more value than the marbles. I did not see any valuable marbles in the packages. The bumblebees in the first are the only "named" ones. I wish Gerald Witcher could get his book published. He has a ton of information on the dates, headers, etc. from MK as well as the marbles, history and more. The Gladding-Vitro bag is between 1969 and 1982 when Gladding owned Vitro. Others are generally from the 60's, maybe late 50's on the Rainbows. 1
Ric
Al is the man when it comes to packaging. None of the bags are particularly hard to find, IMO. The Rainbow bags probably have the most value. You might be able to search sold auctions on Ebay to see if any of these have sold lately and what they sold for.
ArtGLove
Thanks for responding! What's so confusing about eBay is that in the last three months I have seen original packaging bags sell anywhere from $10 to $227. What made this bag of 100 rainbow sold for $227? Unopened bags could warrant higher prices because marbles may be in mint condition, but what other factors am I missing? Hard to see the details of the 301 marbles in total because the old plastic has clouded, but perhaps there's nothing uncommon among these common bags from the 60's? https://www.ebay.com/itm/306347716171?_skw=marble+king+marbles+original+package&itmmeta=01K02ERPP1JZRPHQ2B7J0D0J8F&hash=item4753bf2e4b:g:uG0AAeSwna5oSilN&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA4FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1foEkMu7CaBYdvWD43XvmXPbDME8XpXMpI4OCZ2qo%2B1EbW%2B%2BDalPvIbxxyitJgvreejKvBih4J2%2FFtfNcDc%2BvaFjvl8PIxmhbq1xFfDm7mgbpgOJJGC93XEeMuu5JCmU45qTOU0CN1K0ly92hItkELj77ZX1fh4q1nYwkL79WnafoqgU6o3LhB8VIkNomVyr4IMVJEFA9jI3Lq1ghKKB4kSeHt%2BT193esRn9Ri0B1N0lGdeVnLCtsfT%2ByI2ogbWmEBlLjA5nrFmGMM4jpwxvWOF|tkp%3ABk9SR6Tr4s6AZg
Al Oregon
The $227.50 bag of 100 does seem high. Maybe someone thought (knows) that they saw a valuable P&R in there - like a Watermelon? - but I don't see anything that would pump it up that high. However, the bag of 100, which is not rare but is not easy to find. I sold one, as part of a group, in the $50 - $75 range.
Ric
I'm pretty much with Al - $227 does seem high. But it is a 100 count bag and they are certainly less common in that size. The only other thing that I can see that may have influenced the price is that it has a mixture of patch & ribbon and double ribbon types in it, although I'm not sure how common or uncommon that is.
akroorka
Well, the bag has a seam on the back--this is an older bag imho. 100 count is rare for sure. Shill bidding is still a thing out there. The seller is not a marble guy. Ifff--- I collected MK--$80 would be my limit here. Nice--"not buy". Marble--On!!
ArtGLove
Google is by no means the only metric, but it's a good gage for worth because "Something's worth as much as someone wants to pay for it". However, here's another that I can not discern how this Bag of 40 is different from mine that sold for $49.95? Which are considered more collectible or valuable out of Rainbows, Cat's Eye, Vitro Cat Eyes, and Marine Puries?: 1964 Vintage NOS Marble King Marbles 40 Glass Marbles SEALED Package Milk Glass https://www.ebay.com/itm/186037315786?_skw=marble+king+marbles+40+ct+original+package&itmmeta=01K07HT5NM0VWQEBXBW4CAFZ6V&hash=item2b50b028ca:g:OwAAAOSwhKtiYC5y&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAABAFkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dLOtOU9xSw9R17RiBRcPtMJZwQR2%2B%2FChE7KV8pc%2Ba6N152lIQyQdmh8WPZtiWJHRybbnbZKZGVaGR9WyHl%2BEtLJW%2FrYfvFKl7L5OoBufUw0o5KnqAgz0nTbjkEGXdMkYUalqw8YcVC4Av%2BqZUUVIDK4lHPKFSusB7KL9Y1d%2B5%2BMUfIuvtt07F5Q3hx4ON9tL22Sj42CANF5o7FonwP7sw3CuOaRlKuq1gjhCmkhjxL7v4%2FMMeJW1xLvywGlHQ68g5fo5HtjaC8SV2hRmO7aFJXW%2BdFeoKed3VMsjDzibd4FRCJykPF5gimuZoiOBuPETY%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR_ja6PGBZg
Ric
The fact that the header, bag and tag are in excellent condition and that Cub Scouts are less common than Bumble Bees may have something to do with it. In general, I think the Rainows have more value than the Cat's Eyes or purees, but sometimes in does depend on the mix of marbles in the bag.
Al Oregon
That last bag is in great condition and has the "instructions" stapled on. The price is at the high end of the range that I would pick.
duotone
Also, looks like streaks of red in one or two Cub Scouts in that bag—appealing and perhaps older.
