Thank you Jo. I hadn't noticed that. Most of the names need an "s" at the end. One of our runs has it left off too. Edna

Joe Hogue made some beautiful boxes for the 2008 JABO Experimentals. Each of the special runs has its name laser engraved on the top. The box has 12 rows which hold 4 marbles each. Close up of the names of the runs I wiggled. It's not the laser engraving that blurred. The first row is Joker 1. I left one spot for a Dark Knight. Then Madyia in the 2nd row. The third row is Joker oxblood. The 4th row is Peltier Mansion. The 5th row is Aces. The 6th row is Tributes. Row 7 is Marleys. Row 8 is awaiting Joker Fall Harvest. Row 9 is awaiting Jinks. Row 10 is Eagles. Row 11 and 12 are Tributes Last Dance. Thanks Joe, for making the beautiful boxes. Edna

Marble # 42 Level Three Level III is named as a tribute to a friend of ours, Brett - a Tribute, who is taking his Level III ski exam in February. This marble is to remind him and all who come behind to ski his own game, ski his own turns, and have fun. The examiners will press him and the members of his group to the edge of their skiing and thinking skills. Always start in a christie, whistle, smile, and give them a crisp clean stop after every exercise. They will have your pin with them at the exam. It is yours! But you must take it from their hands and it will always be your "gold" pin to wear with pride. Congrats on facing such a monumental task! Ski fast! Take chances! and always remember "there are no friends on a powder day." This marble was named by Steve Sturtz.

Bo, I said don't read the JABO posts. I sure did. Aren't you the person who suggested JABO be given its own section so that you didn't have to read the JABO posts. I don't agree and Lou didn't either and he nixed that idea. So I think the solution is that if you don't want to read JABO posts, you just skip them. I already explained that I don't like reading cateye posts. If the title says cateyes - I simply skip it. Never read it. Same thing with antique handmades. I don't collect them, have no interest in them. If it's in the title of the post, I don't read it. Are you just being argumentative or do you not understand what I mean? I think the really classy people give others the right to their own likes and dislikes without showing disrepect by ruining their posts with negativity. Really classy people who are given gifts of every run of experimental JABO's by the Vice President himself and one of the originators of the idea of experimentals say THANK YOU to both of the gift givers. Really classy people don't come on these boards and trash other peoples posts with ridicule. And really classy people don't post that they laughed out loud so hard they peed their pants. Now if you really do like reading about JABO because you do collect some of it, why on earth would you join in the bashing? Why would you complain about the celebration of JABO and then say you want to read it. Talk about contradictory. This thread has deteriorated on this last page to the ridiculous. Look at the crazy things that have been posted. Looks like some of you have a bad case of the crazies and need to take your meds. Some of the most respected of you have complained about Sue. Sue didn't say anything negative about machinemades. She told you the history of collecting machinemades. She's made a comparison of how collectors felt when people began collecting machinemades. I think its funny that the same arguments were used then that are being used now. I think some of us don't read close enough and go off half cocked at "a sentence" that irritated us. I've been around long enough to see the tide change about Vitro Agate and now it's changing about JABO. In 10 years it will be something else in the marble world. Live and let live. THIS IS A HOBBY, NOT A BUSINESS. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE FUN. CAN WE STOP THIS NONSENSE? -

You said you didn't want to read the "JABO" posts. The title is in the post so don't read. Not that difficult. Not contradictory if you've decided not to read about JABO. Edna -

No it doesn't make it a silver. The base is yellow, so it's lemonade ox. I also collect the childrens dishes. The lemonade oxblood octagonal set is just yellow with oxblood. BUT the interior panel set is yellow with white swirling and oxblood and much prettier glass to look at. Edna

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is my real honest answer to Hanzel's question. To my knowledge, the Joker group is the only one to have made money, yet we kept on doing it. It is not all about money. It would be interesting to hear from the Madyia's, Aces, Eagles, Jinks, Peltier Mansions, and Marleys. Ask Hanzel for his input. He should know, he paid for a run. Part of our reason is keeping JABO open and the jobs saved at least for a while. I gave an honest account for us. I didn't speak for anybody else. I'm sure everyone in each group of investors has their own reasons. Ours was to have fun. We are not beer drinkers or smokers (Weldon and I) so we don't throw money away on those. We are both retired educators. You know from that we are not wealthy. We give ourselves an allowance each month for marbles. Haven't found any marbles we wanted in a long while. So we had marble money saved up. Believe it or not, we did it for the fun of being a part of it, the fun of sharing the marbles with friends and family, the fun of giving marbles away. We did sell enough of the first run to get that investment back and we may get the second one back when we've been to a marble show. I don't know of anybody who gets rich from marbles. If folks thought they would have instant riches, they are mistaken; unless you know of some others who did make money. Add that info please. I'd like to know and I'm sure others would be interested to know also. Our marbles will be passed to our son and then to his son. He may make money with what we leave behind. If you've never been part of a marble run, you are missing out or maybe we just don't know how to have fun. LOL There are all sorts of riches that are not about money. I will always remember Weldon being asked by another team member at our first run, "Why are you doing this?" Weldon pointed to me and said "See that woman over there. It's for her and we had $1,000 to spend." Now make light of that if you wish, but it's our honest answer. We are not large investors. We'd never fund a run by ourselves. But a lot of small investors are part of our group, we all like each other, enjoy being with each other, enjoy working together, and hanging out. That's it - no hidden agenda, no secrets, no ulterior motives. What a great group we have! Looking forward to our next run. Edna -

Then skip the posts about JABO. No one is forcing you to read. I skip the posts about cateyes, never complain about their number of posts, people investing in them, people who collect them, just no interest so i don't read. But, this is not really about using our brains, is it? It's about bashing JABO, David, investors, collectors, and Sturtz. Steph thinks I hijacked the thread asking Mike who his favorite maker was. Mike simply stated he disagreed with the statement in the article. I wanted to know. I didn't ask Galen. I knew he would start the bashing. I already knew his favorite and he knows I knew it. I ignored his first remark hoping he would stop with that one. I asked for Mike's opinion. Mike gave it. No problem. Bo was polite at first too and I ignored his comment. Never pays I guess to ignore because Bo got progressively more trashy with his remarks. NEW BIRD, some of us are tired too with constant jabber about JABO in a derogatory manner. Unfortunately we can't skip reading it because thanks to Galen and buddies it keeps popping up on our posts. We are not allowed to appreciate or celebrate successes or beauty of the marbles we love. It does make some folks wonder about things we've heard said. Did the Jokers enlist the aid of Galen to criticize the marbles to drum up attention and increase sales? Interesting thought. The Joker's may be the only true investors. To my knowledge they are the only ones who've made any money. More power to them. Making money is not a crime. Are the Joker's the ones that cause fright in CAC collectors? Are the CAC collectors really scared to death that the experimental JABO's are cutting into their profits, their prices they can ask for CAC's? I don't see it that way at all. It seems to me a different crowd investing in CAC's and collectors buying pretty marbles they can afford. Why does that cause such hatred? It shouldn't. Or are some other people correct in thinking if Galen didn't harbor such a grudge based on lies about one of our group, he'd leave us alone? Marbles are fun guys and gals. Why rain on anybody's parade? I'd like to get back to having fun. I happen to like all marbles. I collect akro, peltier, marble king, vitro, CAC, marbles from the Ritchie County marble factories, and yes - Contemporaries. I do not collect antique hand mades. I don't bash them or their collectors. I never bought a fake CAC. I don't read the posts about the antique hand mades any more than I read about cateyes. I think what I'd like to see is that the bashing of JABO, Dave, Steve, collectors of JABO stop popping up in our threads. There is a difference in having a different opinion and bashing, denigrating, downing, trashing, putting down, attacking, and out right lying. We are all smart enough to know that difference and refrain from it, but some of our detractors do it anyway, even though they are smart enough to know the difference. And like Duffy, for me putting IMHO and peace, does not make it OK. Could you simply not read our posts and not post your crap on our posts? Here it is again. I WILL NEVER RUIN YOUR THREADS CELEBRATING WHAT YOU COLLECT. I THINK THAT'S MY THIRD TIME IN THIS THREAD SAYING IT TO THE DETRACTORS. PLEASE SHOW US THE SAME RESPECT. NO ONE IS TWISTING YOUR ARM TO READ! Edna -

Galen, you said this: And whose ideas was it to use the goldstones and other materials. If you say it was all Daves ideas I know a few people that might take offense to that. And don't dare try tell me it was his idea to use multiple crucibles which helped in the last runs. Do you really believe adding a bunch of different bought glass into the pot to create multiple colors is that big of a deal. Implying that the stuff being done at the recent Jabo runs is anywhere near the genius of Peltier, Christensen, Fiedler or even Alley is rediculous peace,Galen It's the same old thing brought up each time. How many times do you have to hear the truth? And this one: I am sure Dave appreciates some folks elevating him to the status of these early guiniuses. Peace,Galen This sounds like the same old thing too. You just can't stand for Dave to have admirers. You "down" him at every opportunity. And then there is this one: LOLSHIPMP laughing out loud so hard I peed my pants Laughing about Dave being given some praise? You get real, Galen. Please stop posting on and reading the JABO posts that you can't stand. You are not simply having a different opinion. You are downing Dave and the marbles. I don't care if you don't like the marbles or think highly of Dave. Some of us do and we've heard enough of your version. It's our post. Go back to your board and post what you like. Again, I say I WILL NEVER BE CRITICAL OF YOUR MARBLES, YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST, OR TRY TO RUIN YOUR POSTS WITH NEGATIVITY. Edna -

Mike is correct about Boyce being in charge of their run. Our first run was right after Boyce and Mike's. Boyce hung around and watched ours. I remember Boyce saying that he was going to let Dave do his next run because Dave got prettier marbles. Now I disagree with that somewhat. Boyce got some gorgeous marbles, unlike any of the other JABO experimentals for the most part. I loved the pink ones Boyce got using gold in the glass. Mike never said a negative thing in his posts. He simply gave his favorite marble maker without downing anyone else. There is a proper way to disagree and then there is the other way - criticizing the marbles and Dave. Edna -

On the crucible idea and time frame, let me say I have been thinking about space travel and wrote stories about space travel as early as 1959 . But I have not built a space craft yet . I say if a man is limited by his tools let him build better tools .Steve I need to see pictures.Bo Attached thumbnail(s) Reduced 92% 1212 x 992 (237.37K) Sorry Bo, I took this post to be belittling to Dave. Dave did not think about building a crucible at Champion. He built it and used it. Two crucibles if I remember correctly. Since you don't know Dave, you are undoubtedly not aware that he is a very humble man. He doesn't brag about what he knows or what he's done. He's very quiet. He did all the things that some of the JOKER's claim for their invention or idea, most of it while still at Champion Agate. Dave used mica first, aventurine first, and crucibles first. The Joker's and all the other experimental runs simply paid for the materials Dave asked for. By the way, they were materials he was not allowed to use in any appreciable amounts in the classic runs because of the expense. That does not relate to not knowing how and learning from some person with no glass experience or machine made marble experience. Some people have claimed they were responsible for all the things Dave did. I'll say it again. ALL THEY DID THAT WAS DIFFERENT WAS FURNISH THE MONEY TO BUY WHAT DAVE WANTED TO WORK WITH. WITHOUT DAVID MCCULLOUGH THOSE MARBLES ARE NOT POSSIBLE. Edna// -

This is for Hansel. We have invested $1,000 in each of 3 runs. One of them is not done yet. I never thought of it as an investment. Doesn't an investment make money for you? On our first run, I sold enough marbles and hand made boxes to get my initial investment of $1,000 back. It did not cover my trip to Reno, Ohio - gas, meals, lodging. My most enjoyable time after that run was being able to give friends and other deserving people some beautiful marbles. I like making people smile. Maybe in years to come those Tributes will earn me some money, but I think it will probably happen in my grandson's life time, not mine. I haven't sold a single Tribute Last Dance. Haven't been to a marble show since that run. I have made 100 boxes which I will sell along with the marbles, but I give away as many as I sell. So my second investment of $1,000 has not seen any replacement. When Galen talks about "for profit" and the "big bucks" we are making, I find that offensive. Weldon and I do it for the fun of it. We love being at the factory, spending time with friends like Dave, Bill, Ron, David T., Debbie, Elizabeth, Steve, Steve P., Howard and Julia P., etc. etc. etc. We love giving marbles away. We do believe they will appreciate in value over time, but not our life time. Hansel, I hope that's what you wanted to hear. This is an honest report. Edna -

Galen, I think you're being obnoxious. Bo is essentially saying the same things, not quite, but in a positive way. He isn't offending anyone. You are being offensive. We all know your opinion. We know it well. You have expressed it many, many times. Why do you need to keep raining on everything positive said about David or JABO? This board is to have fun. Marbles are fun. Let the JABO lovers have their fun without your obnoxious comments. Remember, the day might come when someone ridicules everything you post about anything. You are wearing out your welcome and damaging your reputation. Be a contributor to the fun, not a constant nag repeating the same old arguments and never accepting the evidence that disproves your remarks. Steve, Edna, and all the other JABO enthusiasts love other marbles also. We don't "down" anybody's marbles or favorite artists. If you don't want to read the posts about JABO - the solution is simple, READ THE TITLE AND SKIP THAT ONE. This board is for marble lovers. We post about what we like. We don't all have to agree, but we do need to be respectful to each other. Your remarks are taunting and disrespectful to everyone who loves JABO and respects David M., but especially so to Steve S. Steve does have pics of the first goldstone marbles and he does have manuscript documents concerning the use of crucibles. He can prove that David used crucibles with single stream marble machines long before your friend thought of them and invented the process. If he posts that will you believe it? I hope so because he has the evidence. Let this be the last of the negative postings about JABO. I promise never to ridicule the marbles or artists you love. Never have, never will. Edna -

Thanks Mike. I appreciate your stating of your reasons in an unbiased way. I haven't made up my mind yet on my favorite. I have a lot of favorite akro and Peltier marbles and a lot of the JABO experimentals also, yours included. The jury is still out for me. The work of Sellers Peltier and the other masters is finished and Dave M. is still active. I think time will be the judge. Edna -

Just curious Mike, who would you consider to be the best machine made marble maker? I think Sammy Hogue might say Lawrence Alley. Some others might say Berry Pink, and so on. Who is your choice? Edna
