My Favorite New Philly Find
sissydear replied to FISHSLAYERMARRBLEGRIFF's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
What a great find! See you soon. Edna and Weldon -
Looks like one piece but it's actually a barette on the bottom and behind it is the bracelet. Both made by Kevin O'Grady. Edna

the Ben Burton octopus He lives on the Calvin Sugita shelf in my cabinet. He is next to his brothers shown below. Jahfree - He came to the show with "The Flow" and was selling the marble calendars he is holding. You can order one at Glass Addiction. Weldon is in the center and the other guy is Ben Burton, maker of the octopus and the marble and pendant named "Lost Soul". Paul Stephan - Paul had beautiful marbles and pendants. Hope to run into him again and purchase some marbles. It was my third trip into the building and Weldon was waiting to leave. I went in with Ben to get the octopus and only took enough money with me to pay for the octopus. THEN I FOUND PAUL, NO MONEY ON ME. I knew when I went out again, I was leaving for home. Weldon was ready to leave, so I'll have to catch up with Paul again. Hope now that others are home they will also post pics of their loot and who they saw. Edna

They are two names for the same marble. The company name was trilite. People named it "elite". Edna

Some more eagles that I got from Smitty in a trade for Last Dances. there are lots of pretty experimentals that don't get much exposure. These are gorgeous. Edna

Glad you were able to find one of those marbles, Bob. Wonder if anybody has the blue ones for sale? Edna

Why Not Many New Posts Is Everyone Dead
sissydear replied to mordiskul's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
We just got back from Tucson. Lots of people are at the shows. Welcome George. Folks will be back posting soon. Edna -
I see two of my favorite contemp artists in one picture - Kris Parke and Brett Young. Edna

We went back to Tucson Saturday morning and hung around about 3 hours. Bought that octopus I talked about that Ben Burton made. I also could not resist a barette and a bracelet made by Kevin O'Grady. Will post pics of the artists and stuff I bought tomorrow. Edna

I call it a bumblebee cork. Love that one. Edna

We just got in from Tucson. I have some more items that I bought yesterday, but haven't had time to do pics. i also got a pic of Andrew Brown and Jahfree. Will post those tomorrow on the Tucson thread. For George: welcome and most of us have lives outside of posting on the chatboards. Be patient and everybody will be back from the shows and post again. Edna Dang, I forgot to echo what Scoop said. My Eagles that i traded with Smitty are just terrific, especially the ones that got Scoop's attention.

Went to the Tucson Best Bead Show Wednesday. Found some old friends and a new one. Got some pretty marbles and pendants and a bead. This is my new friend, Ben Burton. Ben lives in Hawaii and I've met him on Glass Addiction. Sure was good to meet the live person. I wish I had bought one of Ben's octopi, but I did get a marble and a pendant. The octopi are really nice for a retired biologist. Ben's Lost Soul marble Back of the Lost Soul Marble I bought a matching pendant Ben Burton's Lost Soul Pendant Old Friend Filip Vogelpohl - When we get home, I'm going to post more of Filip's work from previous years. Filip is enterred in the Flame Off again this year. We usually park ourselves in front of Filip's work station and watch him the whole time, but we can't be there this time. We know whatever he makes will be beautiful. some of you have seen this marble in the calendar that you can find for sale on Glass Addiction. Brian Bowden is a friend from Glass Addiction and he bought one of these also. Watch for Brian's pics because they are 100 times better than mine. Sea Flowers calendar marble back of the calendar marble Filip Vogelpohl's Galaxy Bead - lots of planets, moons, etc embedded. I can hardly wait to make a necklace with this galaxy bead This bead is a gift from Filip. I have always put his gift beads in a showcase instead of wearing them. I promised filip I would make a necklace and wear both of the beads this time. Weldon and I were right behind Brian Bowden on Wednesday as we looked for old friends and made our purchases. Brian and the Eaton's like a lot of the same artists and the same marbles. Weldon Eaton, Brian Bowden, and Filip Vogelpohl This marble is from Andrew Brown. Every now and then my pics just disappear from my camera and the one of Andrew disappeared. Andrew is an old friend. He told me this marble is the first using the technique he tried. Andrew poured the glass into a brick shape and then cut slices of the brick. He explained it is like using a murrini slice. He is going to send me some pics and an explanation when I get home about how this is done. If I understand it better, I'll share that. Right now I have the first and only marble made like this. I imagine there will be many more. And this is Andrew Brown, taken on Saturday in Tucson. The back of Andrew's marble Kevin O'Grady Kevin makes gorgeous marbles and bracelets. Everytime we come to Tucson Bead Show, we take marbles by Kevin home. We also take home his brother George O'Grady's marbles. George didn't get to come to the show this year. I will show more marbles of George and Kevin after we get home. Kevin figuring out what we owe Brian Bowden also bought Kevin's marbles. Everywhere we went Brian had already been there. LOL The cloud you see in the pic is a shadow and I'll replace this pic with a better one when I get home. We bought 3 of Kevin's vortex marbles. this is a better pic, done at home. One of the neat things about Kevin's marbles is that he makes his own boro colors. Kevin has nice bright colors.

I left out something in my post. I didn't have 7 of everything to keep. Another investor sent me what I was missing. I didn't get 7 of the Flamencos without goldstone so my friends are mailing me that one. If they need a marble they didn't get, they will ask and I will give. Ron Shepherd, are you finished going through yours? Did you find Bouncy Betty and Golden Betty? I have some.

No, that's not what I said "David saves the good stuff and gives them to his friends to be sold privately". David and Sammy Hogue made those marbles. David gives them away. I suppose like me, he doesn't care what people do with them after he's given them. I don't put strings on my gifts. I believe the one that went so high was a marble that David's son sold. Someone who knows for sure can answer that. David has the same marbles from his run that everyone else has. He does keep a sample set of everything made - never to be sold. Each of the experimental runs for 2008 gave David some of everything made. David gives away his experimental runs. If you ever visited JABO you came away with pockets full of marbles that David gave you. Last March, my grandson and I were at Disney in Florida. David, wife, grand daughter were there too. David reached in his pocket and pulled out a red and white marble and gave it to me. He told me it was the last family of marbles to be made under the JABO name. The factory was closed down at that time. David had probably been giving those marbles to children he met at Disney. You really don't understand glass people. They don't keep stuff usually. Robert L. Hamon kept nothing. His children and nieces and nephews have very little of his work. Some of them have his work because Weldon and I gave them marbles their uncle made. These folks grew up in the great depression. They were selling it as fast as they made it. remember they could always make another one. It didn't seem to matter to them that they never went back and made another one. The idea was that they could if they wanted to. Boyd Allen Miller, nephew of Robert Hamon and a good bit my junior in age has kept that tradition. He doesn't keep things he makes. The glass men make the work to be sold and sold it is. We have cautioned Boyd to put some things back for his son. Don't think he has. We've been told that out of staters value the glass much more than those who were born in West Virginia and grew up around it. The glass is common place to them. It's a treasure to us out of staters. I think one of the Joker runs had red aventurine. The Peltier Mansions may have had some red aventurine also. The Tributes do not have red. While I have some of all the other experimental runs, I do not have all of the Jinks, Marleys, or Aces or Eagles. I can't speak for them. I'm sure someone involved could tell you. What the Tributes have that I don't think the other experimental runs have is goldstone, oxblood, and aventurine in the same marble. We also have as many as 7 colors in one marble. I do not know of anyone's experimentals having goldstone and all the other colors of aventurine in one marble. If you had beatiful marbles and wanted to sell the worst first and save the best for last would you do that? I don't know anybody doing that. Wouldn't that make people angry when they found out they had not spent their money on the marbles they really wanted? I wouldn't be buying any more of their marbles. Since I paid for my share of marbles, Weldon and I that is, we got to see them first and pick the ones we wanted to keep. "Our" marbles are in collector boxes never to be sold. There are too many great ones for us to keep them all. I have 7 Golden Flamencos, that's all of my share so they are an exception. My collector boxes hold 7 in a row. So, I kept all 7. I won't sell any Golden Flamencos. However, other people got that many or more. They may not keep them all. Watch for those going on sale. There are some of every thing made that are for sale. Nothing is held back.

I've been wanting to do a post on marbles from Ritchey Co. (not sure of the spelling) I'm waiting for a funeral to be over before I start that. I want ron to be able to take part. I'll start that one soon. I've done akro and vitro so much that people are probably tired of those. LOL Edna

We are so sorry to hear this. Prayers are with you, Ron. Edna and Weldon

Bo, I don't sell on ebay. I do sell Tributes and Last Dances if someone contacts me for them. The first Tribute run and the Tributes Last Dance have marbles with blue aventurine. I won't be selling any of the marbles David gave me. If you are wanting to buy some of those marbles, PM me. I know someone who has some for sale. Edna

Steve is correct. I have a typo. David clearly marked the bags 2008. Thanks for catching that. Edna

Very nice marble! Edna
