Then hang out somewhere else. You have freedom to choose. Go to Land of Marbles. Your friends are there. As stated long ago, you don't have to read about the JABO's. You won't take away the freedom of others to choose what they want to see and read at this board. Edna

If anybody knows, it would be David Chamberlain and her family. Edna

Metallic Peltier Miller Rebel ?!?!

Mibs, I can see the green in yours. I went back and looked at the original marble and the edges in some parts of it look green too. You may have something there. Edna -
Ric, check your PM box. I've figured out how I can send you my pics without a photo host. Edna
-
I'm getting the big red X. Guess I'll have to delete from my other host if i want to post more pics.

I signed up at photobucket, but can't figure out how to use it. Edna

Ric, I do have a few Cairo, but my photohost is full and I can't post pics. I need to try photobucket. Edna

Lee is a marble collector, dealer, co sponsor of the show in Washington state. He took part in several of the JABO experimental runs. Edna
-
the seller is Lee Linne. Does that help? Edna

Each time Weldon and I were involved in a run we had 2 shares. our investment was $1,000 each time. And the marbles got prettier each time. Edna

I was trying to say in a nice way to folks who misinterpreted that you were correct. Today's sulfides are made in a mold and if you've done ceramics, you can look at the old sulfides and know that is how they were made too. The glass has the sulfide plunged into it, not made in a bullet mold. Edna

Have you read David McCullough's letter of provenance that is posted at JABOLAND? The letter states that the idea for doing the experimental runs came from Steve Sturtz. It's clear to me that he knows more about the experimental runs than anyone other than David. His knowledge of JABO is broad because of the 3 books he's written about JABO. I was an investor in all 3 of the Tribute runs and our group always learns and has a great time working together. After the last run Steve said he was tired and wanted to take a break from doing marbles because they are so time consuming. I was thinking about asking Steve Sturtz if he would put together another run. Since he is the most knowledgeable other than Dave McCullough, maybe anyone interested in being part of a run should PM Steve. Maybe he could be talked into doing it again. (psia-antique) Edna

It's possible that the sulfide figure was made in two halves, not the glass marble. Maybe that's what was described in the article. Edna

West Virginia Marble Collectors Club Show
sissydear replied to wvrons's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Good post, Ron. A lot of people don't understand what's involved. Your club does a great job, expecially with the newsletter that is so helpful that people all over the US and maybe outside, join your club just to get the newsletter. We're coming all the way to West Virginia this year, just for your show. It's a 2 day drive for us. We couldn't get a room in the hotel, but will find one close by. See you soon. Edna -
West Virginia Marble Collectors Club Show

Zigafoose, Why don't you move to Texas so you can help us with our show? I like your ideas. Edna -
Lou, yesterday I sent a PM and then tried to send another and it told me I had to wait 10 minutes before sending the second one. Edna

The Texas Marble Club has had three elections starting with the one at our October show. That was thrown out. We then got permission to hold an election via internet email. That one was thrown out. We met in December, the trustees, some present, some present by proxy. We held a third election which was also thrown out. The results of all three elections was the same. Edna Eaton, President Carroll Collier, Vice President Claudia Buser, Secretary Raymond Anderson, Treasurer We also elected new trustees. Finally in February, the ex officers agreed that for the good of the club, they would accept the elections. Raymond has opened a bank account for our money, but it has yet to be transferred. Every time we think we have it all settled, one of two former trustees asks for another requirement to be met. Carroll Collier, myself, and all the rest of the officers were committed to having a spring show. However, it is probably not going to happen, because we have not met all of the former treasurer's requests. Carroll has delivered all of the paper work asked for and now there are new requests. There has been a pattern of this behavior since October. Without our money to pay the hotel bills, it is impossible to hold a show. Carroll is trying to find a hotel in Austin to hold a show in May, but without our money released we don't know at this point. Wish I could be of more help. We had big plans for our usual April show with guest marble speakers, marble makers, etc. but it looks like it is not going to happen. PM me for more information. Edna

I just counted 33 posts on the first page. Looks like 4 of them are JABO. What is your problem? Edna

No one has mentioned selling at all. Slow? Have you looked at Land of Marbles recently? Or Marblemental? They are slow. Edna

I don't understand your remark. Edna

Well marboman, I won't leave Pelts, CAC's, Akro corks in school yards - but I will leave some JABO's that are not so pretty as Mylees, Edith Irenes, or Hods. I will give those beauties away but I want to see who gets those - so at marble shows - yes children get those beautiful JABO's. They also get akro corks, Pelt swirls, etc. I guess it has to do with growing up poor for Weldon and me. How many marbles does a collector have to have. If you were here marboman - looking at our collection you would be struck by seeing 5 of a kind in a row in a box. My akro marble boxes hold 25 marbles. Sometimes I like a marble so well that I do collect 25 alike in a box, but most of the time it's 5. Now people on this board know cause they've been recipients IF I HAVE MORE THAN 5 OR OCCASIONALLY THAT 25 TO FILL A BOX, DO I REALLY NEED ANY MORE? AND WHAT DO I DO WITH THE 6TH MARBLE OR THE 26TH? People I know receive those marbles. I give them away. I'm not a marble hog. I love seeing peoples faces when they get a marble they really like and want for their collection. I know other people who do that too. I spoke with Ron Shepherd about looking for Vitro buttermilks for me. At the last Tribute run Ron handed me a box with a buttermilk shooter in it. Wow! I never dreamed I would ever find a shooter. And I didn't. Ron Shepherd gave it to me. Weldon and I are members of the Texas Marble Club. We regularly give marbles to the club to be given away as door prizes. We don't give marbles we can't sell or don't like. We give marbles we would want in our collection. If you really knew me, you would know I'm a Bob Hamon fan. I have more of Bob Hamon's marbles than any other artist I collect. Those Hamons are treasures to me. Now and then I find one on the bay that I already have. What do I do? I try to buy it and then when it's mine, WHAT DO I NEED WITH TWO? But I always know someone I'd like to share Bob Hamon with so that marble is given away. Come on folks, it's not all about money. It's pure joy to collect and then help other collectors enjoy marbles too. And kids..... why that's the best. Where is the next generation of collectors coming from if not the kids? Oh marboman, I almost forgot, I've rarely had an excess of CAC's, but I have had on several rare occasions. What if it's a marble I already have? I give it to a friend. Some folks reading this have been recipients. And no, I don't have so much money that money doesn't matter. I am a retired educator. Weldon is a retired educator. We are not wealthy unless we compare growing up with now. Looking at now, compared to growing up, we are so wealthy; but it's not money. It's friends, it's giving, it's loving people, it's service to our community and church, it's being good stewards with the blessing we've been given. We will never be rich in money by anyone's standards. We also will never be described as greedy, stingy, or opportunistic. I wouldn't leave a $300 CAC in a school yard, but if I didn't need it, I bet I could find somebody that does. And it just might be somebody that could never have one if they had to buy it. I've been one of those and so has Weldon. I think it's called "payback". So many people in our childhood did the same for us. Oh, and one more thing..... I agree that everyone should be able to express their opinion without fear of discrimination or recrimination. Edna

If any of our group did it for the money, I'd bet they are disappointed. I have enjoyed everything mentioned about the fun of doing a run, but the greatest fun for Weldon and I (I'm repeating this again) IS THE JOY OF BEING ABLE TO GIVE BEAUTIFUL MARBLES AWAY! We're even filling our pockets with them when we go to the grandson's baseball games and giving them to kids. I'm thinking about dropping some on the elementary school grounds in our area. In the past i have posted gorgeous akro marbles, vitro marbles, CAC's, and Peltiers. They hardly bring a comment except the time I posted the Vitros on Land of Marbles. I have Champions, Cairo, Jackson, Marble King, and loads of contemps. The JABO lookers seem interested and post comments. It's not that my vintage are blah marbles. They are nice, mint, some rare, but it seems to me that it isn't worth the time it takes me to do pics and post them. So....... I have stopped posting them. The contemps bring a comment or two or three and then roll over. I figure that means "no interest" so I've stopped doing that too. Just my observations on the subject. Edna

More Tribute To Friendship Marbles
sissydear replied to sissydear's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
I haven't found lutz lines in # 40 yet, but you are correct about them growing on you. Weldon and I are putting together keeper boxes yesterday and today and we found some very interesting small marbles. the ones with green aventurine and blue aventuring are nice! Plus there are some that have goldstone too. Took me a while to see that. I shouldn't have written the small ones off. LOL Gary the new boxes are due to arrive today. WE have a job. LOL Edna
