  1. They are true jaspers...different colors of clay mixed. Very hard to find. I know of about 20 - the ones I own and a few that Hansel has.
  2. Thanks...these are nut dug. I used dug fragments from the factory site to help identify these in the wild - shows and ebay. The group above took me 15 years to assemble. The largest examples in the pic are 2" in size.
  3. Bored at work...some ceramic marbles from Akron :-)
  4. Would love to see a piece of glass made prior to 500 AD that involved an alternating cane pickup. This type of technique is from the 15th and 16th century. Toledo, Corning, and the Met display no such pieces, nor do any of the 200 plus books/ journals / excavation reports that I own on 'ancient glass. Enlighten me please :-) I am just a humble glass maker & archaeologist...lol ...and for your viewing pleasure..an Eastern Mediterranean Core Formed Alabastron from my collection. Greek / Hellenistic - 4th - 5th century BC.
  5. Looks like an end knock off from a cane pickup in glass blowing to me....this work as far as I know was not done in roman times. Just my humble opinion as a glassmaker.
  6. Those are odd...unlike anything I ever encountered at MFC.
  7. that is the one I was talking about.....the other imho is just a messed up twisted machine made example.
  8. Scott is correct about the example that I was referring to.
  9. Nice melted pontil. I have a few colored like that. Definitely not common though.
  10. Uranium glass horizontal swirl....it definitely glows. I haven't encountered another example. Did find pieces of uranium glass at Barberton. Size is about 1.5" I think.
  11. more..lol a really cool glass egg made in Akron by Leighton....it is actually hollow.
  12. more pics of my glass ballzzzz. These were excavated at the factory site..... These were excavated in Barberton, Ohio.
  13. Some blue clearies... Some nice purple and white horizontals... A killer three color I picked up not to long ago on fleabay from Alan.... Some pink ones..
  14. The Akron Toy Company The S.C. Dyke & Co. Dyke's Stoneware Specialty Co. American Marble and toy Manufacturing Co. The East End Marble Co. Limaville Terracotta works. The Mishler Brothers Terracotta Works The Standard Toy Marble Co. The Albright and Lightcap Co. The Akron Stone Marble Co. The Akron Insulator and Marble Co. The J.H. Leighton & Co. The Navarre Glass marble and Specialty Co. The J.E. Albright Co. The American Glass Marble Co. The American Marble Co. The National Marbles and Specialty Co. The M.F. Christensen & Son Co. The Barberton Glass Novelty Co. Standard Clay and Glass Products Co. The Akro Agate Co. yes was located in WV - but was started and owned by Ohio residents. Was an Ohio registered Corporation as well. The Shadyside Glass Novelty Co. The Christensen Agate Co. M.A. Knight Co. Jabo..... Looks like dozens to me technically. There is probably a company or two that I am missing as well. I guarantee that there were still more marbles produced in Ohio.....clay, glass, and stone. You are talking continuous production from the 1880's till present day. Toy and industrial.
  15. The scoring board is cool. I have a few of those but never knew what they were. I also thought they were cribbage boards. I do have a killer old cribbage board hinged box with an awesome inlay top. It contained a set of dice. I wonder now if it is really a domino game. It's probably from the 1890's.
  16. Pink glazed American / Akron made - extremely rare. One more Akron pink - size is 2"
  17. It's an Akron made stoneware marble. I have seen two others very similar to it.
  18. I have a 20 pound lump of copper from the bottom of the MF Christensen furnace. The copper flowed into a furnace brick joint and solidified.
  19. I didn't find anything like that at CA in Payne. There were a few MFC experimental marbles that contained a moonie opalescent base glass like this but i do not believe they were many of them made. I have less than 3 and only a couple pieces of the raw glass. Again these were mixed with other colors.
  20. My glass shop is only about 9 miles from the show. I am hoping to do some demos or a tour of some sort. It would be cool to get a few contemp makers to come out and make some marbles as well. Canal Fultonglassworks.com
