Jabo, The Microsoft Of The Future

I'm sure that the person who started this thread was just kidding when comparing Microsoft to Jabo. At least, I hope that he/she was! -
Poor Richard's Almanac- Jabo:a Classic 1-14-09

I was there for Hansel's run...we left the Vegas show to get there for it. It was an interesting couple of days and we enjoyed ourselves. (I posted all the photos from it on this board) They are ok marbles and if you enjoy them, that's great for you. Making them is, and always has been, a business. It's a business for everyone at Jabo and the only reason that the business will close is because it's not profitable. Any business that doesn't make a profit cannot continue to operate. -
Poor Richard's Almanac- Jabo:a Classic 1-14-09

Sorry to butt in to a response meant for someone else, but the only real, honest reason for the jabo private runs is to make money. If you have so much fun doing it that making your money back isn't important to you, that's good for you. But it's not the reality of the business (and it is a business). It's common sense and it's the reality of the situation. -
:4Party: Happy Birthday Al!!!! Hope you're having a fantastic day!

I noticed someone is selling a broken "Eagles" marble on eBay...a Mike Rowe. If anyone would like any damaged/broken pieces, I'd be happy to ship you some for a very reasonable cost. I have TONS! (well, maybe not TONS, but a whole heck of a lot). There's some heading Joe's (Madmanmarbles) way...can't wait to see what he comes up with!

OK...Steph pm'd me with instructions on how to get these huge files posted. thanks Steph. Here goes... (I'm only able to do one at a time - still too big. Any other suggestions?)

Hi guys, Thanks for all of your nice comments. I really appreciate it. Al, I know Hansel would rather play marbles than doctor...but I think the marble thing doesn't pay as well! And it's safe to watch the show when it airs...the crew was there to film the marbles being made - and Dave got to be the star of that part. The rest of us were told to stay out of the way! Here are some more photos - these are going on eBay tonight. If anyone is interested in purchasing any Eagles, please let me know. I'd rather sell them privately and not have to take the hit from the eBay fees. I'm offering very reasonable pricing and great discounts for anyone purchasing multiples. OK...scratch the "here are photos"...can't upload because they are too big. Help!

Hi All, The latest (and last??) private Jabo run, "Eagles", was held this past Tuesday (Veteran's Day 11/11/08). Lots of exciting news to tell about. Mainly, this run was filmed for an upcoming episode of "Dirty Jobs" for Discovery Channel. The film crew arrived about 9 a.m. and shot until well after dark. Mike Rowe, the show's handsome host, got to get down and dirty and make a batch of marbles that are now named "Mike Rowes". The show will air late January or February - we'll be sure to let you know. This run was the private run of Hansel de Sousa - with Steve (Smitty) Smith at the helm, along with Dave McCullough. So now we know that in addition to being a heck of a nice guy, Smitty can make some pretty great marbles! The next day (sorting day) another piece of interesting information came to light. Dave put the "For Sale" sign on the building as we were getting ready to leave. (see pics). The end of another part of marble making history. Hope you enjoy the photos of this run. It was a couple of long, dirty and hard working days - but the outcome is spectacular! Individual photos of the "Mike Rowes", "Tequila Sunrise", "Witchy Woman", "Take It To The Limit", "Desperado" marbles to come in a couple of days. For further info or to purchase your own Eagle contact: Jo Nutter at [email protected] or Steve Smith at [email protected] Steve adding aventurine and striping colors to the crucible Hansel getting in on the action colors going in the molten glass stream which is sheared off and then alternatively directed to the two rollers More photos in next posts....

After attending my first ever round of shows this year (beginning with S'ville last Sept), I am definitely ready to match the names, faces, board id's, ebay id's....shoe size, favorite foods - ok, I'm getting carried away here! But seriously, I've left shows and found out after that there were several people there that I would have loved to "meet" in person. This internet lifestyle is great - but what a shame to lose the "shake your hand and get to know ya" part of it. So, 5 p, JK's store and hot dogs...it's a date! btw- has anyone done a "list" of names, id's, etc.? no one ever seems to interested in the Getting to Know You Post Your Photo threads!

Thanks, Steph...good detective work.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, the answer for which can easily be found in a book... what's makes the different colors in the silica? is it dyed? We saw a jar of orange sand/silica? at the Akro Museum last weekend...with other "debris" in it. I've been wondering ever since.
