  1. I have to dig it out but I have one vitro caged cat that has light blue almost turquise color glass and not due to reflections either.
  2. You can't receive new messages when I tried to pm you. Maybe your inbox is at capacity.
  3. A few years ago picked up 32 peewee solitaires at an auction approx .47 inches or 12mm. Been looking for a board for them but are uncommon size since most boards are designed for larger marbles. If anyone knows info about a vintage/antique board for them I would appreciate the info. Probably wouldn't be cheap though. Out of curiousity sakes what is a value of a set of pee wees like this without a board. Took some pics as a group and then some by themselves. I'm trying to attach some photos. Hope it works.
  4. Contemporary is the first thought when I was looking at it. Marbles made for the English market sometimes have different colors and designs/constructions than the traditional German Handmades so that could be a possibility as well, I believe that is what hdesousa was implying but forgive me if I'm wrong. I still am leaning alittle more towards contemporary though.
  5. Very nice antique handmade. Rare color and unique. Great pickup.
  6. I have some good examples but won't be able to do photos until this weekend. Vitro Hybrids and St. Mary's, uncommon colors, Peltier Bananas with aventurine, etc have the most value and can post some photos of those unless someone else posts pics in the meantime. But Cats aren't worth that much anyways. I've seen some nice Vitro Hybrids Shooters generally range from 2-10 dollars but have seen some go for more than that. I don't have many Asian ones since I don't add them in my collection but do have a few vintage Asian cats from approx 1950's.
  7. There are several auctioneers that notify me when marbles are up for sale. The auction didn't have a lot of marbles pictured but had jars, tray of handmades with some machinemades/mostly jabo and a no 1 akro box of cardinal red marbles. Didn't get a thing. http://www.auctionzi...1721238/fp1.cgi went for 475 dollars, I thought their retail value would be closer to 350. Box in good condition for its age and marbles were near mint/near mint plus. Lost a tiny peewee handmade swirl, was approx 5/16ths, just a general design, was solid core and went for 75 dollars. I don't have one that small and dropped out at 40. Coupe older gentleman bought everything up and I know they aren't resellers because I've ran into the one guy many times and he buys up all marbles and paperweights. Even in the tray where some Jabos were mixed in with older machine mades were going for over 10 dollars a piece. I'm not a machine made expert so i don't know what some of the other machine mades were and could have had some value but nothing popped out at me. Same thing happened to me a little big ago where a bunch of sulfides, some beat up as he.l with major damage and none went under 60 dollars and most were under an inch and those that didn't need reconditioning like a bear and cat, animal figures went for over a hundred each and some of these were just good conditon. Just venting and frustrated that I am trying to collect marbles as a novice with my son and can't buy a darn thing because of the pricing. I was willing to pay 275 which I dropped out of for the Akro box. I figured if I could get it for 275 I would keep it and if cheaper maybe would resell if I bought other marbles, fund our hobby. 2 large I believe around 2 quart jars of vitro reds/mk, bunch of vitro cats with a few pelt bananas and vitro hybrid cats went for 95 each on seller's choice. Anyone else see this kind of action at local auctions. I'm about to start buying on ebay because it seems to be cheaper for me. I'm in Michigan by the way and haven't bought any marbles at local auctions for about a year because of the prices at local auctions. I hate travelling almost an hour to go to auctions and get skunked everytime. I am thinking about packing up jars of common machine mades from the 60s and making some money offering them as cosignments, lol. Am I way off on what marbles are going for lately? Just a vent and sorry but I don't post that often but I hate going to auctions with my son and desperately wanting to buy some marbles and leave empty handed.
  8. I have quite a few Vitro hybrid cats and I find them lovely. Rich, I have the same book and the info there is kind of vague and the way they explain it is not good. The Vitro Hybrids have fatter veins and more typical of cross thrus and are generally up to 5 vanes while the later ones are much narrower vanes up to 8 or so and hug the outside of the glass more. From what I have read and heard, Vitro hybrids are around circa 1955-1965 and the caged cats are circa 1970 and later.
  9. Prayers for your son in law and your family in this difficult time and for a quick recovery. Howard
  10. Thanks Steph and Mintster. We are on a drought of handmades in the wild (garage sales/estate auctions, second hand shops, etc) and they get quite costly. To keep acquiring and give us more motivation on a limited budget we are going to start seriously collecting machine mades while keeping an eye out for handmades. Howard
  11. We (son and I) collect handmades primarily but are deciding to expand more into machine made collecting. May need some help with some IDs in a couple of weeks and hopefully I didn't spend too much but I thought I saw some interesting/potential ones in there. Maybe wishful thinking but here's hoping I made some good investments. One of the auctions had several handmades in there as well. Wife is letting me buy some marbles for my bday next week and didn't want to buy me any because didn't know what ones to buy for me. 12. The condition of the mib in question is way off. It has major surface wear in my opinion. Looks like it has a bunch of scratches and little chips all over the surface of the entire marbles . Still a monster sized blue mica but the difference between near mint (which is how I feel they are describing it) and collectible or even a low good grade is a difference of hundreds of dollars. I have a feeling it's going to go for a lot because of the size and people not really looking at the condition.
  13. Onionskin. On 2nd part, I've never seen a St Joseph Coat with Mica so unsure about that aspect. My curiosity is up on that since my boy and I primarily collect handmades, if they do have St Joseph Coat with Mica I'd love to see a pic if someone has one.
  14. Beautiful collection of Lutzes. What a spectrum of styles and color variations. Thanks for showing them.
  15. Have you looked on Ebay? I've looked at these in the past but have never purchased them. Still trying to make my own when I have the time, lol. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OAK-small-MARBLE-1-2-9-16-DISPLAY-CASE-HOLDS-189-/380402951002?pt=Marbles&hash=item5891c8635a#ht_500wt_1287 http://www.ebay.com/itm/OAK-MARBLE-DISPLAY-CASE-HOLDS-117-LOGO-1-INCH-/380265726699?pt=Marbles&hash=item58899a82eb#ht_500wt_1156
