  1. Huh? Anyway, welcome Coco64.
  2. Make that three. If you put a strong backlight on it, what color do you get?
  3. Looks like a swirl to me.
  4. Akro is what I heard, too. Not that I'm old, or anything.
  5. I usually reserve the term "egg yolk" for that distinctive (to me, anyway) and kind of pale scrambled-egg color sometimes seen on/in those nice ground-pontil hand-gathered marbles. But that's just me. I think others use it for some Akros (with oxblood), too.
  6. I have a Weather Bird yoyo. No idea of a date -- I'll have to compare it chicken to chicken with these!
  7. I saw that. Mess is a good word for it.
  8. I also found that ^^^^ to be true when I was actively looking for this type. I still pick up one of these HG types every now and then. But knowing now that the type of cut-off or shear mark you get depends in part on the temperature of the glass at the instant it's cut, I'm not sure what else they can tell us. Fall-back position: looking more closely at the glass . . .
  9. Also the old micas are described as "blizzard" when they're chock full of glittering mica . . .
  10. Me too. At the moment I'm guzzling Alka Seltzer Plus Cold & Flu, cherry flavor. You sound temporarily snakebit, Steph. This too shall pass. At least that's what my friends tell me when I'm experiencing the same kind of [i don't know what to call it] you are now . . .
  11. You're right! Must have been bad enough as it was. I would LOVE to see those minutes! Do you suppose they still exist somewhere?
  12. My initial thought was Dave McCullough too, but I just couldn't get enough of the right letters out of the last name! I think I'm slow because it's Friday.
  13. It's a regular squished cat's-eye. A horseshoe cat is just a "U" of glass. It can be "ribby" but you won't have the top points of the U connected or covered by another vane of colored glass. I'll see if I can find a good example . . .
  14. I thought I had a pretty good handle on the pontils of this type - - - "pinpoint," short straight, & long straight <probably German. Longish propeller-curved < the "Canadian" type. Crinkly/spidery < Japanese, and so forth. Then Winnie got her box and said there were a bunch of types in that one box. No consistency in terms of pontils. So now I don't know what to think. But I have stopped sobbing helplessly. So that's a good sign.
  15. I agree! I know that some attempt was made to have the tank temperature controlled / regulated by computer (such as it was at the time) by the new owners of Vitro when they moved it to Anacortes, but . . . As far as I know, the closest that Peltier ever came to flames were the feathered slags. Some individual ones have what appear to be flames at some point in their patterns, but flames certainly weren't what Peltier was looking for. "Striations" is the word used over and over in that one particular patent. I mentioned it really because one of the patent drawings is a good example of a modification to a nozzle, if anyone was interested. I particularly like the Alleys with the fern-leaf-tree or leafy branch pattern! I get those whenever I can . . . And I like your new agate experiments, Dave!
  16. So Hill was able to keep his stock even after his "little indiscretion" was made public? Interesting . . .
  17. There are some gorgeous ones with transparent bases, but they aren't as common as the opaque-based ones. Sometimes they are a part of a run (the Ultra run, for instance), and sometimes the run -- or a large part of it -- was transparent-based (I think there may have been more than one "Crystal" run?). Try a search using the word "crystal" with JABO and some may come up.

    Caged Cat?

That particular blue is sometimes referred to as "Windex" blue!
  19. Just found this pic that Steph posted today in Steph's Study Hall . . . compare box lid and this bag . . . In this box the bag is a little different from the one IowaMarble mentions. Red draw strings. I have no idea what that means. I am a Small Pelthead even on my best days.
  20. Those purple ones are great!
  21. There they are, the little darlings . . . (I like knowing that not only do they exist, but that I even know where in the world they are . . .)
