  1. I don't know about thriving business or not, but as far as I know Danny (lopaki, above) is still working in the field, as is Leroy, who posts around here sometime. He is not at all dead, as he was recently rumored to be. You can probably find that thread easily since it was pretty recent.
  2. May your cake be large and heavily frosted, Bob!
  3. Poor things. (Pass the cheese-soaked bacon, please. And the salt.)
  4. I lean toward Champion too, but only because I have a busier one in those same blues. Just a guess.

    Alley?

I'd say so too. Not long ago I got this one --
  6. That's the only other one that was bothering me , , , agree with 2 probable/possible Champions, the rest Alley. Good group.
  7. Shhhhh . . . I'm sneaking up on those rings of his. While he's distracted, make your move . . .
  8. And then there's this that a friend of mine sent me, for all you lovers of animal-group names out there . . .
  9. Then the marbles would have to be Peerless Patches, right? Having a hard time seeing them as Rainbos . . .
  10. Yep, step right this way . . .
  11. Yay! The agate amulets or "olives" (referred to on p.2, paragraph 2, above) were the agate beads that the German cutters at the time were trying to position in the extensive agate bead market / trade network that had been dominated since forever by India and the Near East . . . Here's some from Afghanistan, cut in India, that you can still get today.

    Agates

Since I'm sulking, having ordered myself to ignore that amazing agate on ebay, I take consolation in the only other contemporary (Botswana) agate I have, also made by Matthew DeGraffenried . . . trying to convince myself that they should be enough for anyone, really . . .
  13. Oh. You have one of those powder-blue snakes. Not the turquoise / aqua ones. You know the one I mean. The one I've been looking for for a long, long time. You wouldn't happen to have more than one, would you? Or be tired of the one you have? >>sigh<<

    Agates

OMG. That is nice. Yes, tempting. Now I wish I could unsee it. Thanks, a lot, Dave! (just when I thought I was "over" agates!)
  15. Just to report, I knew I was going to like my new book on animal tracks and "sign" when flipping through it randomly the night I got it and this caught my eye . . . (on the weasel group) . . ."the word mink comes from the Swedish word menk, meaning 'the stinking animal from Finland.'"

    Agates

According to the guy who made it (Matthew DeGraffenried) it's .775. In my world it's just a hair over 3/4. Love the fried egg! And the board full of agates. And all the other agates. Including those made by Alleynut. Great thread!

Here's my Botswana agate -- (also hand cut, about two years ago. I'll get his name tonight -- he says he makes all of his marbles to be played with in traditional "Rolly Hole" games! Not that I would. But it's nice to know the intent is there . . .)
