...said she has had these marbles for more than 60 years. What do you think? Cardinal Reds? Thanks. Burt

I believe they are. Any thoughts about mine? A collector from IA. was at the Des Moines show with pictures of M.K. swirls asking if anyone had any. When I got home, I found this marble and am wondering if it could be..... Compared to your picture, the colors don't seem quite right, but I'm not sure. Thanks Ann.

Thanks Steph, it could be, but a big question mark still fills my otherwise empty head. And then there is the marble on the right, both from Clyde's collection. As for the marble on the right, I know there are marbles from Ravenswood and Champion, and even from Mid-Atlantic that are similar, Could this be one of those M.K. swirls that I have heard about, but not seen?

My previous notion was that a slag had a transparent colored base with white swirls. While turning this marble, I see an opaque White base with opaque colored swirls through which no windows of transparency can be found. The darkest red ribbon may have some depth to it that may make one think of a transparency. Can it still be called a slag? I may not know my left from my right either, so keep teaching me. I'm willing to call it a slag , it's just more opaque than I am familiar with. Thank you.

The marble on the left is entirely opaque. Can it be a slag?

No changes in the pictures. Willie probably meant left. Above are three pictures. All three pictures of the same two marbles. They are 23/32" left, and 47/64" right.

Ever See A Teal And Brown Akro Agate Popeye?
bermar replied to bermar's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The middle of the Teal cork is opaque and from the middle out it becomes Translucent. The Brown is Translucent/Transparent. The White threads seem Translucent and the Base is Clear/Transparent with that yellow moonie hue. Terry's pictures look like we've found a cousin. Great discussion. Thank You. -

Edna may be on the right track here. I wish you could see this marble "in hand". There is no question about Teal and Brown, the Brown does not appear to be a blend, but the Brown could be a discoloration. -
Ever See A Teal And Brown Akro Agate Popeye?

Thank you, Ann. I see what you mean. Backlit it has a yellow hue. Although there is a lot of white, all the white is wispy (bad pictures). Maybe multiple "hair-thin" white threads separated by clear. Any more thoughts? Thanks, Burt -
Here's one. Clyde had a way of finding the unusual marble. It's near mint. 45/64". Are there others like it? Please tell me more about this one.

Thanks everyone. Another successful id.

Not a Jabo...still wondering. Thanks all, for accepting this assignment. Class is not ended yet. Would a brick have a transparent base?

That's a puzzle, Galen. As I turn the marble, the transparent base seems to change from green to red. Maybe different reflections from the internal swirls.

I am having a dilly of a time trying to get a good picture of this little 17/32" marble from Clyde's collection. Transparent base with oxblood, green, and white swirling. No glow. Quite dark in hand until I put a bright light on it and then it's a beauty. The camera, and my questionable skills just won't cooperate. Help. Thank you. Burt

Thank You Steph and Galen. Burt

Teal base with white, random ribbons, mostly opaque, just a couple of tiny slivers of light shine through. 23/32". Thanks for any help. Burt

Thank you Steph, Cheese, and Ron. -
That was the feeling at the Des Moines Marble Show. The color is hard to find and with the metallic edging it is even more rare. This little gem is now part of the vast Kevin Plummer Peltier Collection.
