  1. ok, all is set for Friday's event at the school. I have the marbles bagged and sorted by teacher's name with the class count (I am bringing extras in case the computer count is off). I have my demonstration board, my computer where the kids can see my marble making video, a big display case of completed marbles, a paper with marble games and a paper for them to color a marble of their own choice. I'll bring a torch only, no gas or kiln just so they can see it.
  2. I am thinking prehistoric fossilized stone fish from the sea.
  3. Been playing around again with Jabo junk cullet and made a few sculptures.
  4. Very cool pictures anyway!
  5. Thanks Steph - nice work finding these!
  6. Thank you once again everybody - the kids will be happy. All the extra marbles will be saved for the Toys For Tots and given to children at Christmas.
  7. Toooooo cooooolllllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to go get 600 bags tomorrow and start stuffing them! There will be that many elementary school students passing by my table. The teacher stays with them so they won't be wondering off. It'd a pretty organized affair too!
  8. Thank you Galen and Lee - I put our marbles I have gotten so far for the Career day into a big plastic container - now I'll get 600 bags to put them in for the 20th. I can't tell you how happy I am and the kids will be after they get their little bags of marbles at the event. Thanks again Rich
  9. Here is a picture of the demo board that I'll show the kids with the 6 simple steps to making a marble. I glued little toys on the board, dice and Monopoly pieces just for fun. Rich
  10. Now I have to clean-up the drool from my keyboard!
  11. These marbles will get a lot of playing with the kids so no "good ones" that are collectible please. If they have chips, well, not those. Clearies, cheap cateye marbles, etc. stuff like that. Thanks for your kind hearts!!!!! Rich
  12. I was asked to do a Career day at an Elementary School and I want to give to the kids that come to my table a small bag of marbles, say 5 or 6 in each bag. The principal said it was ok and considers my table to be art. I plan on showing the kids how a marble is made (without my torch - too dangerous) by showing pictures and marbles made during the process. Here's the thing, i gave most all of my marbles for kids away at Christmas time for Toys For Tots and I an out of "giveaways." I have only about 100, so 20 bags. There will be 3 sessions with 60 to 80 kids per session so I need a lot more marbles. So, here comes the begging. If you want to, send me some kids marbles that you have hanging around so I can bag them up for the kids. If you are interested in sending my kids marbles for the Career day, PM me for my address. Thanks Rich
  13. Life's good! Peace be with the 911 survivors as they finally have their just reward.
  14. Thanks Alan, now I have to clean out the drool from my keyboard!
  15. Here is a pix of some of the remaining cullet I have.
  16. All kidding aside, I hope that I am trying to show a positive way that people can view a new look at marbles and the repairs necessary to make them whole again. It's a new change in the way that one can look at the hobby of collecting and change can be a difficult thing to manage for some people and their way to handle change to to voice their opinions in a not so positive way. Constructive criticism is always a good thing and I hope that threads are taken that way. Now, back to the repairs. I posted the final results of what I do to old dug marble cullet. All those marbles started out with some type of damage so I "fixed" them BEFORE I "arted" them up. Here's the link to that post. http://marbleconnection.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=15537
  17. The quality of the cullet and a bit of additions determine what comes out of my kiln 8 1/2 hours later. It's taken about 15 years of playing with glass to get to where I am at today. I try to allow the glass to "speak" to me when it's under 1450 degrees F at my torch. Thanks for your post David.
  18. I have 7 marbles to show you guys that came from cullet that was dug from the site where the marble was made (except for the mica marble - not sure where it came from). The glass is from the AKRO dig. What do you think of these marbles? Rich
