As I said in another post - come on over and we can play glass together! I just love the art of making chunks of cullet round. -

I thought it would be educational to show you some of the materials people use glass to make marbles. There are several choices of glass one can use. I have taken pictures of the types of glass I use in making marbles but there certainly are several more types to choose from. Moretti, Laucha, Vetrofond, Fenton, Kokomo, stained glass, Avon glass, old vase cullet, old railroad window glass, borosilicate, Pyrex, beer bottles, wine bottles, Akro, Vitro, Christensen Glass just to name a few. So here goes, my little glass choices. Fenton, Akro, Vitro, Avon, Moretti, Laucha, Vetrofond, Kokomo, and glass cullet from Quartizite Arizona are shown. I hope this visual array helps in the understanding of what kinds of materials one may use to make glass marble art.

Huh? I am uncertain what you mean? I take cullet I bought from Fenton, break it up into shards and small chunks then round them out into marbles, sometimes adding other Fenton colors. I surface added frit I made from gold aventurine I bought at Quartzite Arizona. Anyway, 1) Saying that I mutilate marbles shows your lack of understanding the process of my marble making which I certainly can help you with - come over and let's make marbles. I posted some of the materials I use to make marbles in another thread. 2) Why do I need to initial them as I surely don't want to mar my little glass orbs. 3) You always have the right to NOT open any links started by me but it's your choice to open it and say what you'd like. I respect others and their opinions even when they don't agree with mine. I am not trying to be rude here but opening a thread is a choice one makes. 4) This section is called, "General Marble and Glass Chat" and that's exactly what I posted. 5) My feelings are not hurt nor are my eyes closed. It seems that some members have specific needs, wants and wishes which I seem not to be able to meet. Oh well, it takes many types to make our world go round. <--- get the pun, round...lol 6) I will not stop posting my joy of making marbles and honestly, I hope you take heart, change your mind and enjoy the journey of marble making results that I post here. As someone once said, it's the journey tat is the destination. 7) Under the Name of the Site it says, "A place for collectors of all types of marbles!" so my posts are very appropriate here. (Mods - this is NOT a squabble so no need to move the thread any other place but here.)

The aventurine in those mibs seemed to "bleed" into the base glass - I too like that look best.
-
They go from 3/4" out to 1 1/8" in diameter. The one marble started out as a faux wire pull type then I added aventurine on the surface!

See what I made using the 3 colors of aventurine? My friend and I made the frit from chunks of aventurine. Fenton cullet and Moretti glass was the base.

Hey girl - make sure you stop by and see me! I love 3 color hybrid cateye marbles (hint, hint!...lol) -
oops, aventurine is a mineral encased in glass - my miss-typing - sorry.

Gold aventurine is copper based glass and if there is too much heat, it can turn an oxblood color. Encasing gold is an entirely different technique because it burns up if the actual flame hits it directly. Never try to encase Fool's Gold ever as the fumes are deadly!!! As a matter of safety, one should always do their work in a well ventilated area when working with any metals and glass. Aventurine is a glass and Lutz is a person's name that used gold aventurine in his work.

Galen - Check out these links... aventurine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aventurine Nicholas Lutz: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/articles/paperweights-by-nicholas-lutz/ and http://www.oldandsold.com/articles/article397.shtml It has been told to me by several vintage marble collectors that gold aventurine is given the name "Lutz" because Lutz himself made the look famous when he used gold aventurine in his work. I am not sure I understand your question. Rich
