Your Best Transitionals - Or Best Drizzles!
Chordus replied to Chordus's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
For the sake of keeping this board clean, I won't describe my reaction to your marble, Reddog. But I will say that I really, really like it. -

The green one is definitely not a rainbow. Other than the umbilical cord, it has no distinguishing marks or patterns. -
Your Best Transitionals - Or Best Drizzles!

Drizzles? I always thought that these were transitional gone awry. I stand corrected. (I feel like that's been happening a lot since I've gotten here). I can't actually change the topic title, but yes, let's change it to "best drizzles." Yeah, that green-and-white one is certainly different. I like the "umbilical cord" analogy. I believe it was dug somewhere (as evidenced by the dirt), though I couldn't give you specifics. -
I've got a soft spot for drizzles, and would love to see any that you've got! EDIT: misnamed the topic, can't change it. Sorry!

I'd love to know that too, Rich. I've got nine cats like that, and I've never figured out who made them.

I'm probably going to get myself shot for asking a question like this in a marble forum, but it's something that I've always wondered. What's the reason behind the value of marbles with Lutz in them? I'm not referring to the old handmades– I realize that those are more valuable simply due to their rarity. What I want to know is why it's still popular in modern marbles. The new Jabo marbles also seem to like mixing Lutz glass in, and collectors seem to gravitate towards those. Aventurine is also valued highly, and I'm not sure why. Is the make of the glass somehow more expensive?

Deceased Father In Laws Childhood Marbles
Chordus replied to GrassHopper's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Oooo, those ones at the bottom look like they might be pretty good. -
Science FTW!

That 1" Vitro of yours is absolutely stunning, Jeepers. O_O I'm away from home for a few days, so all I have is the one angle of this marble, cropped from an overall view of my contemporaries. i.e. it's kind of a bad photo. I'm also unsure of who made it, but I'll check the signature when I get back. I'm somewhat fond of this marble, but it's been a surprisingly huge hit with non-collectors who see my collection, probably due to the coloration. I'll add a couple of my hybrid cat's eyes too... Not exactly the most vibrant colors in the world, but some do have fairly decent coverage of the spectrum. And finally, I recall that Herman Leonhardt's marbles are rather contrasty, so a shout-out to him, even if I don't own any. http://www.themarbleman.com/herman.htm (only link I can find ATM)

I have nothing but the upmost respect for anybody willing to do something that outlandish, just for laughs and giggles. Still, I will admit that I am somewhat terrified.

Well, that's a pretty overwhelming set of opinions. Thanks for clearing that up, then.

I still feel a little uneasy about that, since several people seemed uncertain. But I would also trust your judgement. Uhhhg, so confusing. How much would you say the marbles are worth? I was offered a surprisingly large sum of money for them, and I'm wondering if I should taken it (not that I would have, since I love them both).

Here are the two marbles you wanted better pics of. Let me know if they are sufficient for you. As I said, I had several people take a look at these two and confirm that they were both Christiansens (I'm pretty sure CAC, but it may have been MFC). The two guys who ran the South Jersey Marble Collectors group (the late Vincent Diangelo, and the other whose name escapes me) strike me as particularly reliable, among others of unknown reliability.

Yes, as evidenced by the fact that it's taught in history classes.

There were only two marbles left at the end, so the kid wasn't doing half-bad himself. Their form was atrocious, though; who shoots marbles with one knee up?! *freaks out a little* I sub for a school, and the teachers know that I played marbles, so usually the fifth-grade teachers ask me to come in once a year and teach the kids how to play during one of their history classes. It always goes over real well; the kids love the chance to finally do something other than sit at a desk and stare at the projector all day. But then they forget it immediately. Even when there was a marbles group, and I advertised it, nobody joined. They almost all said they would, but none ever did. What I really wish is that I could get a hundred kids to gather around and watch of game of marbles with the enthusiasm of this video.

Picked Up A Jar Of Mibs, How'd I Do?
Chordus replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
No single-seam diaper fold? I stand corrected, then. My apologies for fighting the rest of you on this one. -
Here's a few to start out, more coming later. The green one is particularly odd... I don't know who made it, or when it was made. it's one very thick band, but the band has lots and lots of ripples in it. Anybody know anything about it?

Normally I'd listen to somebody on this board, especially you, Jeeperman. But I had three very experienced dealers take a look at the marbles at a show, all three confirming that they were CACs. When I get pics from the opposite side (with the fold), you'll probably see what I mean. I still want to see more from the one from the jar! -

Chordus replied to glangley's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
The one with the blue and red stripes. Regardless of what others say, I'm really leaning towards CAC on it... the more I look at it, the more it looks exactly like the one I have. What I'm posting is a very poor angle of mine, but you can at least see the coloration. The one on the left is the same coloration, the one on the right is of the same type, different colors. I have a peltier that does look similar, but the colors in yours have a slight overlap (notice the slight darkening in some sections of the blue), which is not something found in pelteirs of that type. -

That blue/red marble, I have one just like that. If it's got a diaper fold in it, it's a Christiansen. And worth a lot. O_O Any chance you could get a pic of the fold? -
<----Those two are absolutely stunning. O_O I have most of the color combinations you have here, but I've never seen anything like those before. I have a general distaste for cats-eyes, but I highly value my collection of hybrids. They're a pain and a half to get pics of, but I'll have to see if I can upload a few of my own later.

Edna? Your name's Edna? I've never met an Edna before, I thought that that name was nothing more than an urban legend. I'm totally hyped to be conversing with a real live Edna! I agree, some of those marbles are drool-worthy. The giant yellow UV one in particular is absolutely astounding.

Yes. Limeade. Sorry about that. There's a lot of damage (especially on the other side), but it's all just on the surface– nothing deep at all. A very light fix would do wonders for it.

I don't have a caliper on me ATM, so the small marble at the bottom is a standard 5/8 for comparison. That poor lemonade is going to get some refurbishing soon. Needless to say, it's seen better days...

This is brilliant, thanks for sharing! Clearly a hoax, though. No real mibster would ever part with their shooter, for any price.
