Hi. Nice to meet you. A diverse group of marbles.
-
Hi there.

The colors on the bottom look so crisp that I'm thinking maybe Christensen.
I'll let someone else field the Alley location questions. -
Hi. Welcome.
Yes, it is a handmade Bennington from Germany.
-
I picked this set up last week.

What I think I can make out of the structure does make me think you have an Akro moonie here.
-
It does appear to be a Carnelian.
Check it out with a blacklight. There may have been some Carnelians sold whose base did not glow, but if you have a nice greenish uranium glow from the base then Carnelian is a lock.

@Marbleized, feel free to add your examples!

I wonder if Ron’s cat has a marble related name, too. Both my cats had names when I got them and I didnt have the heart to change them. Otherwise, I might have named my cats Peewee and Bombucha (what we called those large marbles in Hawaii). That would be an interesting post. To find out what marbles were called in different regions.
Bibi had her name when we got her. She was almost 3 years old. And she's the most responsive cat I've ever seen to her name. So no changing it.
Somewhere around here I have a thread where I was keeping track of the different marble names I had seen. I think I slid some foreign names in there, but mostly it was about names from different times in history. -
Ha! I just noticed Ron's cat. Funny that it also has an M on its forehead like my Akrocat! That has to mean something!

I ran the question by Edna. She says it's been a long time but she remembers a former Blenko employee ending up in one of the WV marble maker's shops -- maybe Charles Gibsons' shop -- but though she visited, she didn't see any marbles which interested her.

I never even knew there were handpainted examples .....

Maybe 15 years ago I lost an eBay auction on a painted grand daddy pot at $600. I was crushed, but my wife at the time was so mad I had bid that much that she changed my eBay password.
oh noooo .... that's sad .... and hilarious9 hours ago, schmoozer said:I’ve got 4 tubs of akroware that need a new home...
I would pop right up and offer to help with that, but I guess I need to wait to see where the stock market bottoms out.

I noticed that I'm posting to really old posts, thus I'm so ecstatic that people still reply back! Question--are there knock-off moonies? I'm hoping the answer is "no" because I just purchased one that is so amazing--blue spot and orange glow-- and I have it "front and center" on my glass shelf.
I know know about knock-off. There are lots of makers who had "fire" in their marbles for various reasons.
What do you mean by blue spot? Something with a fiery white base and a blue patch could be a Peltier Acme Realer, for example. -
oh myyyyyyyy!!!!!
-
In spite of two separate green ribbons making me consider other makers, I'm leaning to Akro based on seams and colors.
-
got a little shiver ... gosh I love these pieces.

Wonder what he was getting from Vitro. I seem to recall, the MK connection being mentioned in American Machine-Made Marbles, but I don't remember about Vitro. Guess I could check .....

When @klay-taw-n posted his introduction thread I fell in love with his marbles at first sight!
I searched him out on ebay and now these are mine! And they're even better in hand than they were in his beautiful pictures, because they FEEL so good. Their texture. Their weight. They're great.
While I've had many earthenware marbles I wasn't familiar with stoneware. Now I'm a fan.
This bullseye marble needs a video to show it to best effect but I'll try to make do with three views. A work of art.
P.s., this 3/4" glazed marble is itching to be a shooter in a game of Ringer, if I can find 13 glass marbles that I'm willing to shoot it at. My thumb kept trying to flick it. I'm going to put most of my new mibs up onto a shelf to keep them pristine, but I'm saving this one out (and one other) to play with.

Ah, this appears to be David's article, preserved at Joemarbles.com

I would not suppose German on this one.
Based on the pattern I would lean toward West Virginia swirl ... the bulk of which were made in the 1930's and 1940's.
But I am not an expert on those, and there are non-WV possibilities.
