Hi Ray. Good to see you for whatever reason.
Best of luck in selling your amazing collection. -
Alley and Champion are both candidates with shades of purple.

A cool lady shared this on Facebook. I thought she was a member here, but now I'm not finding her ID, so I can't tag her with a high five. It was great to see this. Tahlequah is a big part of my family history, but this marble history is new to me.

I have locked this thread.
Chocomibs, if you have received abusive PMs, then make an actual report to moderation staff. Don't claim you have reported when you haven't. Don't make threats to screenshot private messages and air them in public.
On the right hand side of the message that you need to report, you should see an icon with three dots. Click that and send us an actual report.

There are some non-uranium reactions to UV light. Red/orange glow does occur. I would attribute Rick's red and oranges to some non-uranium chemical such as manganese.
But have seen people present marbles as reacting to UV, when they weren't glowing but just sort of had an interesting look to them because it was blacklight not daylight which was shining on them.
That's what I thought was meant by reflection verses reaction.
Sorry, I can't track down the example I was thinking of most recently -- it was someone who said that each and every one of his Jabos in some large group reacted to UV. The photo he showed after that was just a normal Jabo distribution of glow. Some reacting. Most not. But the new collector thought there was reaction in all.

Let me also answer some of yinz private messages here, publicly, so you know what level of maturity we're dealing with
-no I won't be offing myself
-im not gay, don't know why that matters and frankly the two I got of this were quite homophobic. Reported those ones
-my mother raised me just fine imo
-i will not be selling you the marble for 35, 30, or 10. I'm assuming that was likely the same person over and over because the numbers never really changed
Lastly threats aren't really appreciated. I've reported those as well.
We had a nice break in messages, I got another one last night though. It's a bit childish guys. Thought I should let you know.
Keep em coming and next time I'm adding screenshots with your usernames.
You reported the threats?
I didn't see any reports.
If you're receiving abusive messages through our private message system, this is something we need to know. Please report and/or forward the abusive messages.-

On a separate note about Facebook, what drives me nuts is there are so many obviously wrong IDs. Lots of newbies guessing at IDs which makes the ID groups super confusing. Basically the blind leading the blind. I’m about ready to leave some groups because it’s so bad.
And a lot of these newbies not letting it be known that they're guessing. So one newbie gets what looks like a decisive answer and enthusiastically thanks the person ... and the answer is wrong. In some groups you can count on at least a midlevel person jumping in to offer a different opinion. In some groups the wrong answers just hang there unchallenged.
I don't know how people feel so comfortable answering so decisively! I tried it out over in your Pelt patches thread and was like one for four on what I thought was a gimme.
I will continue my dithering ways.-

Some of MIke's patch pictures have disappeared from the site and of course none of the other pictures I came across have that shade of blue with the yellow, so I'll quit trying to see Pelt there. And it has eyelashes, so that nudges one over to the Akro side also. Still mystified, but not fighting against Akro.
-
While looking for Mike's pelts, I see this picture of what I called Pelts and I have transparent blue on white, so nevermind. I'll go Pelt on the blue and white.

-
I'm still on Peltier for the green and yellow.
I'm still a bit weirded out on the blue and white. The transparency of the blue is making me wonder if this will turn out to be Akro.
I'm still not seeing out the blue and yellow would fit into Akro, so I'm off to check out Mike Barton's pelt patches. -

I think the bottom right might be a really messed up foreign Imperial.
Not seeing that yet.
More pix, Melissa?

Marble--On!!
I wondered about that one. A PPP with unusual colors. Or a really messed up Akro. I couldn't picture such an Akro so I stuck with Pelt. But now that you mention it .....-

It goes about halfway around. Does it have to go all the way to be a double ingot? I'm learning.
It has to go all the way around, because a double ingot is the glass of two separate marbles which have been squooshed together. It can be a very smooth joining. So smooth that you can't feel the line where the two pieces were joined. But you should still be able to _see_ the line and literally see the two separate marbles that came together. -

I buy marbles based on what I like/eye appeal and not simply what is rare or valuable. Maybe I’m doing it wrong. I’ve probably made a lot of purchases more experienced collectors here would laugh at, but I like them.
...
I have spent "too much" on a few marbles that I wanted in the overheated facebook environment. I'm still happy with 90% of my facebook purchases.
I didn't mean to make new collectors feel self-conscious.
There's just something about what is happening on facebook.
One time I almost made a bid on Facebook for something along the lines of 8 Vacor peewee cat's eyes for about $15 including shipping. But I held back. Then I went over to ebay to look them up.I ended up buying what I found at ebay. Got 100 pee wee cats for less than what the small group on facebook was going to cost.
I gotta hope that most people are shopping around a bit. But with sellers having confidence that they can get $10 + $5 shipping for a NM Conqueror, it seems that the sellers are counting on people not shopping around.-

By my observation - ~80% 0f those folks think all of their marbles are UV reactive, when the reality is that 98% of them are just reflecting the UV light. They don't know the difference. A lot of them have gone UV crazy.
I have noticed that also.

It’s a case of “supply and demand.” It appears there is more demand for a limited supply and that bodes well for marble collecting. You just have to learn to be a smart buyer.
Supply is not THAT limited.
We forum regulars could easily flood the market with our bins full of Conquerors. People on facebook are getting quite a distorted view of what they could get these super common marbles for if they looked pretty much anywhere else. -
Not naming any names here. It's not one seller. It's a lot of people and a lot of crazy high prices for commons and junk, not to mention mis-id-ed marbles. I've been rolling my eyes at them for months and biting my tongue.
The example which brought me here to vent is someone asking $10 plus $5 shipping for what they're calling a near mint Vitro Conqueror. This is one where I'm not sure if the ID is correct. Could be, but I'm not seeing enough detail to conclude that it has a clear base. Whatever. Not so long ago, the going rate for a mint Conqueror was a dime. And think how bad condition needs to be these days for most selllers to grade any marble as less than NM+.
Again, it's not about that one marble. It's an epidemic.
I should be glad that my commons are now worth so much. Maybe they'll still be going for numbers like that when I'm ready to divest.

Probably.
I have an itch to rotate the top right to be "sure", but I bet it is.-

The bottom left is the only one I'm seeing as a Multicolor Rainbo. Looking for three intentional colors of ribbons to qualify as MCR.
The MCR was introduced in the National Line era. I've seen some which looked like they probably were made after the National Line era. But mostly NLR-era.
So, I'm seeing one NLR-era marble in your group, and three Rainbos.

I've seen it a few times. Something I already posted showing up again in the reply box.

Bottom left could be Akro.
I _think_ Vitro on the rest.
