  1. Thought maybe enough time had past and some people would start to talk....wrong again. mon

    ; =O)

It was a pretty good thread for long while there. I learned way more than I knew before. I'll slide my thanks in now in case things go permanently north.

lol ... I just remembered I started the thread. I'm so noncommittal about the subject that I was reading the thread like a complete bystander ... which is still essentially what I am. So eneeway ... thanks again everyone! It's been fun!

  2. I'm still not clear about whether the exotics are different types from what have been in people's collections before the year 1999. Sounds like some suggest they were but then others are skeptical about whether the same definition of exotic is being used.

If they were not in people's collections before their introduction in 1999 or later then that would suggest that whole runs were buried or discarded or smuggled out.

That makes me think of another thing. How big are these exotic runs? Are there identifiable types? Any feel for how many there were of any given type?

  3. Sure wish the forum would remember my password. Mon, my Thelma marble was one of the less pricey ones that she put on ebay. I remember being shocked that I won the bid. As I recall, most were more colorful and went for several hundred dollars. If I could enlarge the images, I'd post them again. I think the image size the forum accepts is around 30 KB?

I thought the image size the board accepted was over 400 KB.

  4. Eneeway and fwiw, the 1994 2nd edition of Greenberg's magically appeared in my mailbox today and in that Randall and Webb sort of elaborate on their ambiguous mention of corkscrews from the 1988 edition. In the 1st edition the way they said it made it unclear when the name originated. It could have been a regional thing that they were just getting used to and could have been in longtime use but not the name they preferred or maybe they even heard it from J. Fred Early since they used it in the caption for his collection. But then in the 2nd edition they called corkscrews "the most recent name for spirals". They said that an old name for Spirals was Ace. "Ace" is a cool name. It was visible on boxes. I could see the kids picking up on it. But I'd want more corroboration for that too.

p.s., I love getting new old books and seeing new old names. Did you know that in 1912 Latticinios were called "Fluffy Allies"?

  5. If it is just masked out then hopefully you can get to it by hitting the button on the left. If it's not there at all, then the only thing I know to help is using the image tags.
