  1. I'm not sure what the source of that pic is, but I've asked about it before too. When I was first learning about the modern fantasy boxes.

And yep, that's what those are. Cute little modern boxes.

  2. Yes,within 1/32".NO,Yes,it don't leave the shop if it's not quality.Diagnostically speaking what would be the cause for the high percentage of culls.I'm guessing worn rollers? What would be an acceptable reject ratio,5% or less?

I also have thought the reject ratio seemed high. Been hard to keep up with the discussion I don't want to misquote anyone. Will make a stand alone statement that my general feeling has been that incidence of out of round and dimples and cold rolls for the contract runs seems higher than I would have expected the ratio to be for most of the marble companies of say, 1930 to 1970.

I'm under the impression that Akro had a high rate of rejects when it first started because of Horace Hill's faulty machine design, but then with Early (was it?) they got better. But does anyone here know the success ratios of the various companies which were around before Jabo?

I was pondering the subject of Jabos I've seen which I might have valued at more than $20. Since it was David's question and he has signed out of the discussion I might wait until another day to post them. Some of the better flames are what I have in mind. And some with nice lutz.

  3. NOW that's a superior. LOL :P

The photoshop did the trick! :rolleye-842:

Chuck seems pretty definite about the yellow patch being surrounded by red ribbons on both sides. We shared a couple of emails about them and I'm pretty sure he stood firm on that. I should go doublecheck his exact wording. He named them so I have to go with what he says there.

Here's what he said. I think he'd be okay with me posting it. I should ask, huh? LOL. No, he's said before that it's okay:

Superiors are very consistent in design which is somewhat unusual for early Vitros. The key is the top patch – it is ALWAYS that unique yellow-orange with the very bold & bright half & half red ribbon around it. That design absolutely stands out and anyone who sees them once has no problem identifying them later. The large Superiors (¾” or slightly smaller) have an irregular patch on the other pole which is red-brown, green or blue (blue is usually opaque & the other colors are usually transparent). They are absolutely great marbles. I’ve never seen any other colors on the bottom pole of the large Superiors. The 5/8’ Superiors are identical with the top patch & ribbon. The colors on the bottom pole range from red variations, green variations, blue variations, purple, near black, oxblood-like, yellow and sometimes two colors. Weaker examples have minimal patching on the bottom or are clear or bland white. Quality is essential – bolder & brighter is better, bland is bad. Superiors are not hard to ID, the others some incorrectly call Superiors are usually just Tri-lites.
  4. Why are personal attacks allowed here? Just asking. This is what kills a board. I know a lot of folks who have left because this is allowed.

This is one of the cases where one has to question what constitutes a personal attack. David (marbleus1) has been taking hits since page 1 for even starting this thread. He has been specifically and broadly insulted. This has turned into one of the free-for-all threads where if we banned all who could be looked at as attackers we might be banning half of our active membership.
