    Count me in. Great topic.

I've had dyed agates bisected - antique German (red-brown ones) as well as modern.  The dye only penetrates a millimeter or two into the snot colored stone.

Also destroyed an (already damaged) "gutta percha" marble - color is on the surface of a black, dense thermosoftening resin.

And of course, cracked ceramic marbles will reveal the difference between porcelain type and yelloware benningtons or mochaware (decoration on the surface) vs. agateware (colored clays throughout the body of the marble).

Will try to come up with some pics.

Well, here's an update I should have done way back when.  This is probably one of the marbles that Hansel was speaking of.

  2. This pic has a couple of games I first learned about when we picked them up at garage sales.

The Brick By Brick is dated 1992.  We got it today.  I'm doing it solo.  I'm better than I thought I would be.  lol

Actually the 30 Second Mysteries could probably be done solo but I think more fun with someone else reading the clue card.  Hubby played it with me on the day we got it.  Will probably try to talk him into doing it again.  That one is from 2015 and I see it is still available on the retail market.

  3. There's a reason I shy away from swirls! LOL.  Red(ish),  blue and white ones have been getting my goat forever!

First is an old sunlight photo I took with my Alleys in it.   Second is a badly lit photo I just took with the Alleys on top and the Ravenswoods in the tray below.   It appears my Alleys have some purple tones in the blue ribbons that I didn't notice in person.

In hand I still like my Alley blues in comparison with Jeremy's marble, but the orange ribbons are a lot more different than I had wanted to admit to myself.  Pictures are forcing me to be honest about it.  Denial is not just a river in Egypt.

  4. Yeah ... from the 00's to the 30's the glass marble companies were doing their best to appeal to boys brought up on the ideal of stone marbles.

P.s., I refer to this ad a lot to remind myself of Master's names and original style designs, because Master's later production became so indistinct, and because collectors keep trying to fit Master marbles into pigeon holes that the anything-goes production of later years don't really fit into.  This ad is my touchstone.
