    Handmade Id?

OK, I'll mark it for archives.... But Roger, again, if you could add those in thumbnail, they'll stay with the thread... If you have a problem doing that, let me know. Thanks!!

    Handmade Id?

WOW, I bet that's a Block book, right?? LOL I don't see a damn thing that looks anything at all like End-of-Day in either of those.... But, who am I to question God?? (meaning the author) ROFL Clyde, I'd agree with you on the right one being a Joseph's Coat... It just barely makes it, and the sectioning isn't the norm. But, I think it still falls there... The left one has those English colors (which we now think aren't really English, either) and I guess it would fall into onionskin, for lack of a better name.... But, end-of-day??? How in hell did they twist that definition to go there?? Both are great Clyde!!! Good to see you around, Bud!!

Hey Roger, could you add the thumbnails for those pictures?? I'll probably try to save that info (whenever I get a chance to put some time into doing archives) and I'd love to have those pictures uploaded to the boards space (leave the big ones, just add the thumbs!! Thanks!!! )

Oh Duh.... LOL Lizzy!!! I saw the green one, then for some reason, my eye caught the other green one a couple marbles over to the right.... I totally missed the blue one right next to it!!! I wasn't sure if they were still making them or not.... I was trying to come up with a time line for when I first saw them... It was quite a while ago (And, I think I bought 5 at a buck a piece, cuz I thought they might have been a Carnival glass premium.... Duhhhh again!!! LOL)

    Marble Id

I think those were an attempt to look like Carnival glass... I've seen 'em in green and gold/amber.... I wanna say they may have been made in blue and red too, but I honestly can't remember seeing them... They've been around quite a while (10 - 15 years???) but I don't think there's a huge demand for them...
  8. Yes Chris, I was going to combine and flag 'em, when I got kicked off the computer. So, I just bumped it, so I could find it again!!

    Trip to Lauscha

'Sounds to me as though it makes a lot of sense..... Except the faceted pontil thing.... That seems really odd, since there's so many of them.... Is this the only area in Germany that made marbles? Thanks again, Cees!!! I wish I could have been with you!!! It's a shame that this info hasn't been researched long ago.... When there may have still been some old workers around... Still.... It's great to know that there are some answers there!!

    Great Pics Cees!!! Thank you!!
  11. After being tipped off by Pat Fappiano, that there was a user ID "Bevsmarbles" on ebay, I called Bev Brule's son, Chris last night and we talked for a while.... Yes, "Bevsmarbles" is his ID and he will be selling her collection over the next year, or so.... There should be something for EVERYONE in these auctions.... Common stuff, Good stuff, GREAT stuff and stuff that will only come around once in a lifetime..... Bev was an advanced collector when I was a little kid!!! She was an equal opportunity collector, appreciating the simplest swirl as well as the eyepoppers... She also had an appreciation for the "odd...." It will be interesting to see some of the things that come to light.... Bookmark the page and keep a watch out. It should be a learning experience!!! For those who don't know of Bev (She was a lurker here, but never posted...) I'm not sure when Bev started collecting marbles... I met her as a teenager, somewhere in the late '60's to early '70's... She bacame my mentor and best friend.... She was a co-founder of Marbles Unlimited and personally published the "Marble Mart" Newsletter, for several years... She was "Information Central" for the marble collecting community, before the internet... Any new news that needed announcing, or any information that needed to be learned, the one to call was Bev.... Today, when news of passings, special exhibits, new shows, hot auctions, warnings of fraud, etc. need to be announced, they hit the internet.... Before the internet, Bev would be on the phone for HOURS..... She worked very hard not to be a gossip (as this probably makes her sound....) That was not her "thing." The goal was to get the correct news "Out There," without errors... Bev was also an instigator of the contemporary marble movement... One of the first sellers of contemporary marbles, she represented Dudley Giberson at Amana.... Bev passed away 2 years ago, just before Christmas.... She leaves a huge void...
  12. Hey Chris, between this thread and a question about "What was it that was said, way back when we discussed this before....??" back in another thread (Was it the exotics?) You've inspired a new forum to be added to the board.... The Archive Forum will be a place where all great and informative threads go, to be referenced, later!!! As soon as I get a chance, I'll go back and start moving old threads into it... I figured, I'd use the third page as a cut off.... Once an informative thread has moved on to the third page, it should be archived.... (I've marked this one with the arrow, indicating that it will be moved later...) I'm wondering if I should close the thread??? (When they are moved to the Archive) I can always re-open it if new info should be added.... But, once archived, it seems like they should no longer be an open forum??? That way, any additional questions, or info would be brought up in a current thread, with the old thread referred to.... If the new thread should be archived, they can be merged..... OK, I'm running off on a tangent.... We'll work it out as it goes!!! Until I get a chance to go back and file, if anyone has a "favorite thread" that they found very informative, send me a link.... THANKS CHRIS!!!

    German Sparklers I

I know this is gonna sound really weird comin' from me... But, since these marbles aren't *terribly* expensive or *hysterical* (Ooops, I meant Historical) If someone happen to have one that had an especially nasty surface on it, but looked great inside.... I wonder what Leroy or Buddy could do to make it sweet looking???
  14. I wonder..... If you were to look through any random box (I'd have to assume that this particular box has been checked out....) how many moss agates you might find??? This is a perfect sort of example for what I mentioned in some post a while back.... Finding marbles in a complete original box doesn't always mean that they are original.... Not that many years ago, the box, not so much the marbles in it.... Was the thing of value.... For a dealer, or even a collector to find an incomplete box and complete it with marbles that looked like they belonged, was not considered an issue.... The similarities between these 2 types makes it the perfect suspect for that sort of thing... So, in buying a complete box... If your thinking about price, based on the value of the content, check the content out, thoroughly and make no assumptions..... In a case like this, it might even be difficult to blame a seller for such an error (Depending on who it is.....)
  15. Soooooo Thennnnn, that would be a way to ID them??? (Not having a clue and so didn't even vote to see what the results looked like!! LOL)

WOW.... 3 pages of one of the toughest subjects we've ever been over!! Yes, it's gotten a little warm here and there, as it probably should!! But, what a joy it is to see a discussion by adults, who can handle a tough subject and still act like adults!!! Thank You!!!!

    CATS?

I got this 1-1/8" "Badboy" at one of Del's auctions.... It's always been a favorite!! I never really noticed the orange peel.... It's not an "all over" thing. There are spots that are smooth... Between the fins / veins on one side and the bubbles on the other, it's got a lot of action goin' on!!

  21. Bert Cohen has asked that this be posted..... I have known Les for years and cannot say enough about his reputation and how he enjoyed the hobby and helped so many persons....The marble society will miss this wonderful person and his great family...I watched his daughters grow up each year as they came to Amana and also to my show in Marlborough. I am grieving over this loss Bert Cohen.
  22. ..... I just don't know what to say... I was hoping for a miracle, along with everyone else..... I wish I could have known Les better..... I'm grateful for the small amount of time that I did get to have with him.... It didn't take a lot of time to realize that he was a gem, and he will be hugely missed.....
