  1. Thank you Steph! "...if it's blue, yellow and orange? Is that a superman for you Roger?" To answer your question I will use another NLR example, the Flaming Dragon. A pea-green base with red-yellow-orange blended ribbons. When it no longer has the blended colors it is reduced to a mere Dragon and no longer called a Flaming Dragon. My point being that it is the two-color color base vs the three-color color base (blended or not) that ranks it higher and distinct and separate colors such as this flaming Dragon below only make for a better example.
  2. This must be very confusing to the newbie! So the question might be asked, do the ends ever justify the means? Why can't we use the general description along with the general construction as the two most vital points in naming a marble? After that, if a name has already stuck then we are doomed to live with it, right or wrong. In the case of the Superboy, it is clearly a cut and dry issue. First we use the description followed by the construction, and when compared to the example in question we can use logic based on the criterion. Superboy's are blue base with orange-looking ribbons which were from the red and yellow of a Superman that mixed and blended to make the orange. However, there are some Supermen that have the same blended orange on some of the ribbons, but not on all of the ribbons, leaving ribbons of unadulterated pure dark red as one of the colors on the blue base. In this type example, it is clear to me that this is still a Superman, not a boy. The one single and clearly defined difference to me is that one is a two color color base NLR and the other is a distinct three color color base NLR. Please, this is only my observation and opinion. I will add some pix soon to illustrate my ideas. Thanks for looking!!
  3. Sometimes I swear I've lost my marbles. Whatever this bug thing is I got bitten real bad. Pass the hammer Galen, maybe I need to hit a couple of those myself. LOL
  4. I am so sorry this went so far. I have always enjoyed your company in the past. Maybe I felt like I was picking sides or something, and tried to set a precedence. It's a Superman and that's that. LOL A lot of these ID's seem to be about persuasion. Again, I apologise and hope to keep it fun as well.
  5. The only thing that drives my really crazy is when somebody stoops to such a level. How dare you compare Nazi ANYTHING to this discussion. Do you really think I don't have a wonderful life? Outside of mibs, that is? So you have a nice handmade collection and likely wouldn't mind if somebody used them all for throwing practice. Well that is the difference between a true collector and a wannabe. Anybody who won't admit sitting up at night dreaming about the arrival of the one in tomorrows snail mail is not being truthful in my opinion. You would be surprised to know just how many old timers will call this mib a Superman without the slightest hesitation. Loved the movie but I don't believe you really got the message in it! Pity.
  6. Here's the scoop Sue. I have paid over a grand more than once for a mib, and glass balls or fancy diamonds, this is totally serious stuff! I'm totally serious, Rick is obviously totally serious, and if we vote on how many people here have lost sleep over marbles...you get my point. The marble is a Superman in my book and when I ID another one like it tomorrow or ten years from now, I will still call it a Superman with all my heart in it. This is not childs play and we are not children. I don't mean any disrespect, but please notice how serious I am about my marbles and refrain from implying that they are just marbles. Regards, Roger
  7. As far as calling it a man instead of a boy, I see distinct and separate colors or color bands. I say call it a Superman unless ALL THE RIBBONS are blended red and yellow, not just the yellow ones that blended into pure orange. Unlike the first three examples shown in my pix the fourth (the mib in question) has totally separate red ribbons and certainly outranks the other three and deserves to be called by another name. I heard someone suggest an 'Orange Superman' as the name but I think not. IMHO I was certain it would go much higher which is why I stayed out of it.
  8. Here is an MFC brown slag at nearly two inches (looks like the Vacor beat it out) and a blue with brown Ravenswood at 7/8. Lastly a very large 1 1/4 akro. Hope this helps. BBird
  9. This alley mib has flames similar to a CAC and I was wondering if there has been any discussion about the marble machines being similar, or if Alley got the Christensen machines, or just why they can come out the same so often. Maybe my question should be "What makes a flaming mib?" Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this one. BBird
