  1. I was wondering about that too, Fire. Seeing that strong tongue trait in pic 2 seems un-Pelt like. Do Pelts ever exhibit that trait?
  2. Thanks for the feedback, Akro! What makes you think it met fire somewhere along the line? What trait am I looking for?
  3. Thanks for the help! So just to clarify, the one on the left is a Peltier and the one on the right is a WVS? And sadly, no pandas.
  4. They are both 39/64 (.60) inch with no UV. In the one on the left, what appears to be black glass in hand is actually green transparent when backlit (see pic). But the 2 poles are a not quite opaque black. So it appears to be black and white on a transparent green base. The one on the right is actually a clear base with purple tinges in it when backlit. (See the last 2 pics.)
  5. Hit the wrong button. Here are the pics.
  6. I'm not as sure on this one. It has a big tongue in pic 2. It's also 21/32 (.65) inch with no UV.
  7. Did I get all 3 of those correct- Pelt?, NLR? and Liberty? It's 21/32 (.65) inch with no UV.
  8. It's big and beat up. Definitely well loved. 25/32 (.78) inch with no UV.
  9. I don't know the person (Vamarbles) who is organizing this, or how random the selection of who gifts who is, but I do have a concern that my collection is not up to the levels of some of you all. I am certainly willing to gift some marbles that I consider nice and that are part of my collection- but for some in this group, they might be pretty entry/low level stuff. I really have no clue what others collections are like. Maybe pair more new and entry level collectors with each other and advanced collectors together? I know that may be hard for the organizer to know or decide so it may not be practical- but it is just a thought (and slight concern) on my part. (For reference, I will send something to Canada.)
  10. Ha! You never can tell the history of a marble that made it into the wild- I'm sure there are some with stories to tell! I'm happy to save this one from Davey Jones's locker.
  11. Interesting about the surface lines pointing to a possible dug mib. Is that because they wouldn't have sold it with this 'defect'? And yes, I really love the colors on this one. Definitely a favorite! I'll put it in the collection as an Akro patch, possible dug.
  12. Thanks! Any idea who did make it?
  13. Thanks! Any idea on who made the second one?
  14. The first one is 21/32(.65) inch with AV. The second one is 39/64 (.61) inches with no AV. There are 5 pics of each. Do they both qualify and are they NLR, Millers, or just rainbos? (I'd like learn the differences between these- especially the NLR and newer rainbos.) Thanks!
  15. It's 39/64 (.61) inch with a thin racing stripe band of UV glass in the red. (It's the lighter stripe running in the red you can see in the pics.) Thanks!
  16. Cool. That's good info to have. I will put it with my Akros.
  17. I'm not try to contradict you Fire, so please don't take that the wrong way. I know there are many unknowns, changing knowledge, and varying opinions on many things marble. I'm just trying to learn. 🙂
  18. Block in his book "Marbles Identification & Price Guide" says MFC made slags in Red and Orange. That was in 2012. Have opinions/knowledge on that changed?
  19. I was wondering about those lines too. Is that a trait of another maker? I don't ever remember seeing anything like them before. They only show in bright light or sun light.
  20. Or is it a lazy corkscrew? There is a tracer in the patch, but I can't say the color for sure- dark purple, brown, maybe ox? It's 41/64 (.64) inch with no UV. A related question- Is Akro the only vintage maker that used the champagne pink glass? (I have a sweet champagne and yellow corkscrew of theirs as well.) I know in more modern times JABO had some excellent use of it in their "Aces" run and a couple others. As always, thanks for the help!
  21. I can't figure this one out. There is a JABO vibe, but a trusted source says this came from a collection that is pre-1985, thus no JABO. Also, what looks like a butt crack fold is really an "S" fold, as I tried to show in the last pic. The orange glass is an "S", not a "U"- and the fold line is continuous around the marble and almost does a complete 360. (You can see both ends in the last pic.) It's nearly a peewee at 17/32 (.53) inches with no UV.
  22. Thanks for the feedback folks! I didn't realize it was a tougher ID. In hand, the color reads orange and it looks like a slag to me, but I am not the best at telling where a slag ends and a WVS starts. Also, the UV is really weird- when the white is on the surface, no UV. In the area with the deepest and clearest base glass, no UV. When the white is just subsurface to the base glass- it clearly glows orange. I've never seen that before. Thanks again. And if others have any thoughts- please share!
  23. Thanks Cheese! Those alleys look to have a smidge of almost greenish color in the white/light tan glass and some of the dark brown looks almost black. Mine have a nice consistent cream color and the brown stay brown even when it gets darker. I know pictures don't always accurately capture colors, so they may look very similar in hand. Out of a collection of 65lbs of marbles, these were the only 2 labeled- as Ravenswood. This was done 40 years ago by a collector I don't know, but they had a lot of nice marbles. I just noticed the marble on the left in the last picture shows a little clip of color on an otherwise rather plain side- a Heaton trait I believe? But as usual, I'm sure it can appear in any swirl maker. Was Ravenswood your thoughts too, Chad?
