I know what you mean, I hate radio, it sucks, I just end up listening to npr because it comes in clear and they only try to get my money once every couple months and when they do they are honest about it. Not some dumb dj trying to sound genuine about some diet krud he's never really tried. At least on the christian stations you can ignore the god references and they end up being good love songs with little commercial interruption. But when I do grit my teeth and scan random stations out of boredom I usually find something worth listening to eventually, then 3 minutes later it's gone. http://www.newworldrecords.org/media/file338EF.mp3 You ought to know that one then huh? Do you like gryphon? It's british folk music but folk none the less.

This is for you steph.

My two youngest dance to this in the car. My 2 year old loves it, even when he is super frumpy he nods his head to it. My oldest is more of an alt-rock type.

Not sure what you're into, this should be appealing to those who enjoy current popish music.

Thank you guys for the posts, some great music there. Always good to find new music.

This is awesome. I dont think it has to do with how spherical they are so much as the weight. I agree that banking is needed but i see how it could be difficult with that track.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-qzvuExSmwA Listened to that whole album yesterday while driving. My van has only an am/fm radio. No cd slot or aux port. So I have to listen to my phone :l I really need to make a little 12v stereo for in there.

Lolz, I do give tours of my SHED. There is about 15square ft of space in the center. It is hardly a workshop. If you ever stop by I will certainly give you a tour. I do want to build a new shed/workshop but while the kids are young I just don't have the time. It's a pain working in such a small space but at least my tools are easy to get at.

A radial arm saw that I removed from it's stand and bolted in a table I made originally for a table saw. When I say table saw it consisted of a skil saw that I drilled two holes in the plate and bolted it to the underside of the table.

Some more jet pump motors. The grey one is 2/3hp and does have a cap because of it's size, I am saving it for mountign a saw under that table. The green is only 1/3hp. The one on my wirewheel is 1/2hp and if I didn't get it first I would have used the 1/3hp because a wirewheel doesn't need a 1/2hp. also in that pic is a jerry can I was turning into a tool box, a small table saw, and one of the legs of my saw table, the pair were only 25$ and they are quite strong legs. Like my stereo rig? its a server psu powering a car head unit. Not in the frame is a pair of center speakers from radioshack I got from the dump.

Here are some homemade/modified tools. My very powerful wirewheel My vise on 2" floor flange with 2"x1-1/4" bushing to 1-1/4" pipe in a satellite dish stand. The motor is from a jet pump which means it is very robust and moisture/rust resistant, it also does not need a start/run capacitor because it has start/run windings with a centrifugal switch. The wirewheel rig is mounted with two bolts and wingnuts. In my bench top I have 1/2" holes drilled at 4" centers, makes for easy, quick mounting. The sat dish stand I found in a dumpster still wrapped in the packaging it was shipped in, yeah, new. I replaced two of the bolts with eye-bolts so they can be tightened/loosened with a screwdriver through them.

Modern Handmade Leather Marble Bags

Putting them down the slide or that 2" pipe is amusing as well. Usually he has a basket of golf balls for the pipe. One day I was out there and I thought I saw something scurry, I blocked the bottom of the pipe and put a golf ball down the top. The ball came to a quiet stop in the tube and When I moved the brick a really ticked chipmunk exploded out!! lolz. -

Apparently a chromed brass 2" p-trap escutcheon is good fun with marbles. We were shooting them in a divot here, well I was shooting, he is at the pinching stage. -

Thanks ric. Here's the one my 2 year old has. He was playing outside today with them. As you may notice the bag is stitched with 1/8" twisted nylon for strength. The leather is also about an 1/8" thick, this bag is made to be durable. If the top looks like it's difficult to get marbles out that's because it is, Don't want them getting dumped all over carelessly. -
Maybe My Favorite Handmade Swirl...
skoronesa replied to fentonacres's topic in General Marble & Glass Chat
Lutz is copper or brass filings right? Edit: Just looked it up, it can be either copper filings directly added or "golstone" which is copper oxide(rust) reduced with silica sand that is formed into rods for use later. -

You're a pretty "lutzy" guy to find those, lolz. It never ceases to amaze me, staring at a marble and knowing it is/was someone's prized possesion. I think if we lost our house to a fire my marbles would be my hardest loss. Luckily my stone ones would mostly survive -

10oz is the weight for a given square footage. The higher the oz the thicker and heavier the leather. The grain is the "top" of the leather where the fur was. Now mind you it is possible to split a hyde(which is a full skin) and end up with two pieces the same square footage but thinner. That is suede, and is the reason suede is fuzzy on both sides. Generally the top grain leather is more valuable. Marketing is very good however and many people will go "ooh it's made of suede!". The other thing they like to do is to imprint a grain on a piece of suede, usually to make it look like crocodile or snakeskin or some other exotic animal. The bison leather I bought is cheaper because it is split and doesn't have the top grain. Splitting is obviously difficult to do and the pieces I got don't all have a uniform thickness. When you're cutting small pieces like for marble bags it is easy to work around the thin spots. It is also kind of nice because sometimes you need a thin/thick piece that matches the others. The other important aspect which most people don't realize is that after tanning leather usually isn't its final color. It comes out a very light tan or a bluish tinge depending on how it is tanned. Any color is added with dyes. -

Thank you for the compliment. Really though it's just practice until I feel confident enough to use this one super awesome piece of leather I have. It is what I feel to be the quintessential material for the world's best marble bag. It is 9/10oz leather but it is as soft and pliable as 5oz. It has a perfect grain with no imperfections and is just the right color brown. It will hold my most special marbles when I am done with it. -

Browsing late night anonymously eh? Lolz. Yes, I prefer the stand up style though I do try to keep them interesting and different. It's pretty tough not to vary the styles when you get leather in small amounts, not quite enough to make duplicates. I am going to make a matching large panel bag, I already have 7 more panels cut. Originally it was going to be bigger, 8 or 9 panels, I got carried away and cut 14 so I decided to make two. It probably took me 4 or 5 hours and my pinky had a slice from the thread by the time I was done. -

The fourth is I don't have pics of yet and my 2nd sleeps with it next to him so I will have to take pictures tomorrow. I will also try to take pics of some of the other bags I have made. I might do a build/how to thread but that probably won't be for a while. It's really quite simple, more repititous than anything. I have found bison leather is a good bit cheaper than cow, is usually thicker, and is quite soft. Once you have the right tools and develop a process you can go rather quickly even though it's hand work. The toughest to make bag was from a rabbit fur. With the fur on one side getting the hole positions correct was a pain, and it being so soft it was almost impossible to keep the edges prolerly aligned. Also rabbit hyde is kind of fragile and can tear easily. But the inch long fur made great padding for some special marbles.
