How can CAC Guineas be identified? luckily, It was not too much money....
-
I have 3 mibs that need help with ID. All 5/8ths ". The middle one might be Vitro(?), but I am still at a loss... Thanks for any advice.
-
Is this a guinea at 15/16ths" ? Is it a modern reproduction or a real CAC? The Green/white is 1" *no idea), and the '9 & tail' id also 15/16ths ". I'm crossing my fingers but need cooler heads to advise. Thanks and best wishes

I tried using the 'search bar' for this question since an authority recently posted that Ravenswood and Cairo Co. didn't make 1 " marbles which got me thinking. Is there a graph or chart that shows the total sizes of marbles that each company made? An example being..."Vacor makes jumbo 1" 3/8, super jumbo 1" 5/8, and toe breaker 2", but Ravenswood only goes up to "X" size inches and no higher...?? I there is such a chart, where can I find it?

I like the way you think! Sounds like a great plan to acquire treasure!

Is it Kokomo that's famous for its frothy bubbled glass? Maybe Kokomo? Sure is pretty in pink!

"Be still my desiring heart" means that I yearn to go to this store, spend a wad of cash, and add to my Vacor collection/obsession/addiction....but I must restrain myself (fail!).

Could it be a vitro kiln wash kinda thing?...anomaly?

green horn here-- The blue ones look like Jabo. The green ones look like Alley. More postulation needed. They are very nice marbles- !! The ones with blue in them are stunning!

Please identify for us beginners. Is it 1"? Is it a Vacor 'Panther'?

Thanks Jeff54. I realize some are beyond repair. Some are still salvageable I think. I will take a hard look at all of them and consultation is always appreciated.

Thank you Chad G. I appreciate your input. For my part, I am leaning toward restoring/polishing. This perspective comes from my studies in Japanese Tea Ceremony. It is a well known aspect that when a tea bowl or other object is damaged or abused, the tea bowl is "lovingly repaired" with gold lacquer forming metallic threads that show a new type of care and adornment to the piece. The practice is called "Kintsugi". It is by definition sentimental; but some of the finest and most expensive objects of this "Way" have been cared for due to the abuse of age and fates. It stems from a philosophy that values age and the transience of life. It is considered venerable to salvage and preserve that which is vulnerable but persevering. To destroy is easy, quick, and devastating. To repair and restore and preserve is often slow and very difficult--but worth it. The first picture is a bowl named 'Kizaemon'. It has a checkered and adventurous past-it is worth 10's of millions of dollars. The coffee cup in picture 3 is average and common; worth 4$. Even though the G.H.M.'s that I now own are common, I still feel a response to do what I can to repair their damage. Chad G.-Thanks again for your great comment and advice.

Some pictures show the violence and neglect suffered by older marbles; and may be shocking and inappropriate for some people. Viewer Discretion Is Strongly Advised. All marbles were stuffed into a mason jar with the lid so tight and dented shut that neither the antique dealer (friend), or I could get it off. It was sold as is, and I freed them from the jar when I got home. ...with a hammer. No marbles were further damaged during this liberating process. There were more marbles than expected and some of the smallest ones are in much better condition than what you are about to see. No marbles have been further harmed or abused in the making of these pictures. 1st marble 1" & 7/8ths....

Totally agreed. I am collecting also. I don't have the experience, knowledge, or hutzpah to try and sell anything- especially marbles. I will produce these pictures a.s.a.p.

I had to really look, but there was a light sprinkling of tinny blue sparkles. All the 'Zebras' had seen some pocket wear and I kept getting reflections from the tiny craters and eensy flea bites, but they didn't show up metallic(ish) blue. So I have AV on them but it is not strong- that's okay by me. Thanks to you and everyone else for the advice and knowledge! Now I have a proper 'herd' (4 Zebras and 1 red Zebra formerly ID-ed). One of these days we should all show and tell our animal marbles!...see what kind of Zoo all of us are keeping!
