What's a mib?

It's a short name for a marble.

I call all marbles mibs, because mibster is a name for a marble player, and he/she plays with all marbles

It makes sense to me. My usage may be somewhat archaic . . . like me.

Somewhere along the way I heard that "mib" was the Latin word for marble.

But is that so? That seems like some pretty esoteric vocabulary for people to be aware of - to know what Romans called their little round toys? lol. Maybe it's the Latin word for the stone?
