Steph
Warning: much xenophobic and racist language here and even more at the source. My apologies for that. What "glass marbles of much beauty" do you think might have been coming from Japan in 1907? Source: http://books.google....MAAJ&pg=RA3-PA3 Thanks again to bumblebee for the lead. bumblebee
Word on the street the "Japanese pinch pontils" are from the 1930s...so I wonder what the ones made in 1907 look like?
ziggyzora
In 1907 seems most likely they were hand made. Agree the pinch pontils would be later also not likely to be described as "much beauty". How about these as a possible? Pic from the internet 2006. winnie
I would think handmades aswell, concidering that three marbles in 1930 cost 1 cent, and one from 1907 cost 1 cent a piece. Don't know what else it could be. Ziggy, the marbles you posted from internet were they in connection with Japan? winnie
ziggyzora
No connection, they were a very basic listing like 'old marbles'. Have always wondered what their origin might be, kept the pic for future ref, never seen any before or since, when I read this post thought it might be a possibillity.
