Columbusrockhound
Maybe the buyer will immediately get his money back, once he makes a determination from a hands on perspective? I felt the first one looked hokey. The second won was cheap enough. Hopefully they will pass, for my sake.

lstmmrbls
Seam? darker centers on some of the spots. having had many fakes.
m!b$
So the spots should be flat colors? There is only one view of the first marble, so maybe the seams are hidden...?
m!b$
This one has darker spots in the purple, but it's being sold as legit. I would have guessed this one to be a fake, and because of the bright red spot. Needless to say, I'm not a CAC expert. http://www.ebay.com/itm/X-Rare-Christensen-Agate-Spotted-Teardrop-Guinea-Marble-Marbles-/280874915147?pt=Marbles&hash=item416573154b
BuckEye
I bought a marble from this seller, it was real nice christenseb for $7, just got it in the mail
m!b$
I'm not questioning the seller. I think he/she is probably selling real CACs, etc. I'm just trying to learn how to spot real guineas (I never bothered to learn them because there was always good ol' marblealan to go to for any CAC questions...) lstmmrbls
The large darker area is not the pooling of pigment near the center of the spots that I am talking about Here is an example with many. the fakes often only have a few. Its often very tough to tell from a pic. One of the reasons a good return policy is always a must
Columbusrockhound
Total fakes! Here's the first, larger of the two. About 5/8", two seam.
Columbusrockhound
Other seam.
Columbusrockhound
The second, single seam is only about 19/32", and has a cluster of flakes at one pole, measuring over 1/8".
m!b$
If those last ones are fake, then I don't have clue how to tell real from fake. Except the seams look a little suspicious to me. Too wide.
psia-antique
When reheated, I think the seams open up leaving "patternless" clear glass.
lstmmrbls
I have never seen a real original Guinea with the same color spots on both sides of the seam like a spot was cut with scissors

Columbusrockhound
They looked good to me, are you the one who bought them Yes, I got them. I got this one too, but it really looks like a contemporary. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-11-16-MINT-Guinea-Marble-/280875933898?pt=Marbles&hash=item416582a0caAgain, Pay Pal covers the buyer if it's no good. m!b$
The colors don't look right on that last one. I was tempted to bid on those two guineas from ltlbitcolonial but didn't because his/her feedback isn't too great.
Columbusrockhound
Yes, I got them. I got this one too, but it really looks like a contemporary. http://www.ebay.com/...=item416582a0ca Again, Pay Pal covers the buyer if it's no good. Yep. It'sa no good. I received the marble today. It is not a true "Guinea", but a hand made reproduction. There are four determining factors. The first being the lack of a cut line, or seam. This has not been replicated with reproductions, and the authentic ones will have one, or two as a part of machine production. The second being a lighter than normal amber base. The third being the color splotches have pooling of a darker hue near the center of each splotch, which is common with hand made, and didn't happen on the authentic, originals. The final thing is the surface texture, and differences in this surface, vs what occurs in the machine mades. Tiny blemishes, and air pops are distinctively that of a hand made marble, and differ in structure from that of a machine made. No reply yet. Thank Pay Pal for Buyer protection. psia-antique
FYI...often those marbles develop a seam or it widens if they have been reheated.
