I use my phone for all my marble pics. I find it is always good to zoom in on the marble and always use the flash to eliminate glare

You can buy a camera that will take beautiful marble pictures for a couple hundred bucks, Canon Powershot for one.

I only use my cell phone, would love to purchase a camera with a good macro.

The trick to taking pictures with your cell phone camera is using a dark background, the phone camera is "too smart" in it's White Balance feature. It tries to over compensate if you use a white background, and ends up making the marbles look really dark in my opinion.

You also have to figure out a good lighting situation for your phone. I prefer using the flash with a bright background light (specifically a Maglite flashlight for me  )
