ILikeHelmets
I've been told by some experts they can't say what the strand in the swirl of this marble is, except that it is a WV swirl marble. One person suggested it could be the start or end of a run but it looks like a definite thread of something in the swirl to me, and too pretty to be "trash" that got into the process, although that may be the case. Has anyone see this in their marbles? I have another marble that is ice blue with white swirls and has the same thing.
lstmmrbls
Many different things can make threads of color in marbles, Often different types of contaminants or even some chemical type reactions can lead to the odd threads of different colors. They seem to be fairly common in Alley Agate marbles
ILikeHelmets
After reading Alan's long post on Ravenswoods, pix below from post, I recognize strands that look similar, post is 11/22/07 and I can see the aqua marble I have as well as other examples that could have contributed. ILikeHelmets
I'm seeing a similar pattern to mine, and maybe it it is correct that this marble and others like it were at the end of a run? The example below from Alan's post also shows a double strand which mine has. What do you think?
ILikeHelmets
Or the beginning of a run
sclsu
Ravenswood is a good guess
Steph
Could be related to the copper used to make greens and blues.
ILikeHelmets
How was copper used in greens and blues? Copper wire?
Steph
I'm not an expert. But I think it's "copper oxide" or "cupric oxide". CuO. I think that gets your turquoise and green. And copper in a more pure form may be used to get reds.
lstmmrbls
And nothing at all to do with beginning or end of a run.
